Started a little project yesterday afternoon for my daughter.  She wanted me to make her a small tv stand to go in her dorm room at college.I kind of had an idea of what I wanted so I just picked up some steel and other items and went at it.Started by cutting some small angle to fit this large tile. Attached Images
Reply:I liked it... so I cut out the rest of the angle for two more tiles. Attached Images
Reply:I started on the legs next.  Used some 1/2" square tube and with my torch, bent the legs to form the feet.  The back two are a little larger than the front ones. Attached Images
Reply:After bending the legs, I cut some angles in the tops of the legs to make the offset for the top tile.  Then started on the fit up and welding. Attached Images
Reply:Finished the fit up and got everything welded.  I was checking for square the whole time I was assembling, and after all the welding was done, went back and checked for square again.  I was real pleased with the results. Attached Images
Reply:Here it is almost finished.  I wire brushed most of it to see if I should shine it up and just spray some poly on it... but the wife wants it panted black. The dog seems to like unpainted... like me, but you know how that goes!Project took about 6 or 7 hours to this point.  And will probably take another 2 for the painting. Reply:Nice work j-mike I'm sure your daughter will be pleased!Still lookin for Rock!
Reply:Great work j-mike.  I like making furniture and really enjoy looking at project pics like yours.  I'm interested in how you bent the square after heating it?  It looks like you did a good job getting them all the same.
Reply:Nice little project J, was thinkin bout making some endtables for the house, like the way ya made the legs gives me an idea for the legs.
Reply:Very nice!  I too like the way you bent the legs.  Any tips on getting them even?  My girlfriend wants a new tv stand and I was going to make one in the wood shop.  However, I'm torch shopping and might find this a great first project.
Reply:Great Job.....How did you bend the legs? And if you have a bender please show it...we love toolsRobert D
Reply:well...  they aren't really the same!  Each one is "custom."  I have been looking into getting a bender; found one in a welding book, I was reading, called an Di-Acro bender Model 1A.  From what I've learned, it is very expensive.I have seen some very inexpensive ones from our friends at Harbor Freight, but I'm not sure they will do all that I want them to do.My eye is really on the 2020 Compact Bender at Shop Outfitters.   This one is on the "pricey" side, so I'll have to cut out some beers and save up!Sooooo... I am currently using the "j-m model one V-bender" here in the Noid Garage. And here it is...  You'll notice the sleek design and convenient method of adjusting the bend radius/angles with one easy twist!

Reply:Got the thing done.  Painted it, and the feet, black.  Put some felt on the inner angle to cushion the tiles.

Here is a close up of the paint.  I used Rust-Oleum's Hammered finish.  I kind of like the look of the paint when it dried.
