I have a Lincoln Power MIG 180T welder and I have a couple of questions regarding its operation. The welder has only been used to flux welding ( never set up to use gas )Here is the problem, The gun never gets hot
meaning the gun will never start welding when the trigger is pulled. The wire feeds nicely but just pushes into the material never arching/welding. I have checked and rechecked the polarity/ installed new gun tips, blew outt the gun liner and checked all connections. Do you happen to have any ideas?I used the machine the night before and it did weld albeit poorly
The wire did not smoothly produce a puddle. (wire is .035 innershield)
Reply:You didnt mention your work clamp.you do have a good ground conection???FelonCaution lurker lives here" hmmm That is serious, pass the ganja and pick up a 24 of MGD"
Reply:Yes the work clamp is clean and well connected .. I tried to start an arch directly onto the clamp as well.. NOTHING...
Reply:Mine started doing just like yours, come to find out, where the ground cable connected to the work clamp, the bolt that held it on was corroded almost in half, just a tiny piece of rust held it in place but with it as it was, it caused all kinds of havoc until I discovered it while trying to clean it up.Also, check to make sure the contactor is working properly!#1. If you don't like what I wrote, or if it offends you, then don't read it!#2. I am living life the way I see fit, if you don't like the way I'M living, tough sh**!

Reply:Bump back to the top.Not sure whats going on I seperated the magnum gun apart to check for obvious loose conections,,,, Everything looks great. reassembled and the wire feeds smothly but still no arch at the gun either on the workpiece( thats grounded ) OR directly to the terminal or grund clamp..... ANY IDEAS..The machine was made in 2006 / sept. according to Lincoln the gun itself is not in the 3 year war. period.. what the hell could be up ??
Reply:If the machine itself is still under the warranty, "Not sure how Lincoln works their warranty, I have never had to use it"I would take it to a service center before its up, and have them diagnose the problem.I would imagine that its most likely in the machine, you can take the gun off and test the gun with a volt/ohm meter, and make sure its not the gun!#1.
