This pic is of a TV stand I built to match the night stand in the next picture. It has a quarter sawn sycamore top like the night stand. This should finish the quest bedroom with almost all steel furniture, even including the curtain rods. Attached Images

Reply:Yes, I made the lamp base also. I've told her I really really need a mig if I'm going to keep making things for the house
Reply:Thanks Guys wife saw the pic.... New projects in my future!Mike 93 YJwww.moabjeeper.com
Reply:Very nice, Jim.
Reply:Jim what do you use to make your scrolls? Your projects look good. I have just purchased a metal bender got it set up in the shop but haven't had a chance to play with it yet. One thing has led to another and after setting up the metal bender have decided I needed to clean my shop so have been two days working on that project.
Reply:Thanks guys.I've got the cheap HF bender and scroller. The bender works fine, the scroller always takes some tweaking of the scrolls after their done. They tend to always twist a little while forming no matter how careful you are. But a quick trip to the vise will straighten 'em out. For my needs it does fine. If I was doing this more than just weekends I'd drop the $ for a better one. But for $29 I can't complain. I had trouble with the infamous "flat" spot at first, but fixed that with a piece of 1/4" rod welded to the handle stem where it meets the coma. I read that fix somewhere and it really works.
Reply:Got a HF part number on the $29. scroller ? The only one I saw in HF was 129.

Reply:Jim314: Good pics and really nice work! Even my wife was impressed which will probably translate into another project to justfy my addiction!"All that is required for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing"
Reply:Jim, Thanks for the information about the scroll attachment. I don't know for sure if it would work on my bender as it is a Clark bender, but it looks pretty much the same as the HF bender. The price looks like a good deal.
Reply:Your welcome gnewby, hope it works for you.1911, this welding hobby has turned out to be a wife pleaser. The last hobby, speaker building, resulted in comments like "yeah that's nice, now turn the damn thing down". Now I hear "what are you making me now honey?" Little does she know it's all for me.
Reply:thanks for the info...the wife also loved your tables...
Reply:very impressive, I need to make the wife something to get mo tools for the shop
Reply:Jim, do you use the scroll attatchment on the bender it was intended for or did you build a base for it..?

Reply:This one shows how it hit's the coma and to round out the curve rather than letting the coma come back to far producing the flat spot. Attached Images
Reply:thanks for the pics and explanation Jim ! like they say a picture is worth a thousand words !
Reply:I was in Harbor Freight today and after looking for awhile for the scroll attachment I asked one of their salespersons and he said oh yeah we have some and led me across the store to the other end where we did not find them. Then he got on his walkie talkie and had them check on the computer to see if they had any, which he said they didn't. A little later while I was back in the welding section again low and behold I found 3 of the scroll attachments and they were priced at $19.99 so I ended up buying one of them. Looks like it will work ok on my binder. |
