Reply:Now that that's been established , being more specific as to position and type of joint would help.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:flat bead on a flat plate and a vertical up butt joint, 6011 rod
Reply:and if you mean "position" my *** will most likely be planted firmly on my heels or a stool lol
Reply:6011 is never going to give you a "pretty" weld.  Some have suggested 7018... which is capable of producing a much better looking bead.  However, it is much more sensitive to unclean surfaces and moisture.  As an alternative, 6013 is a good "general purpose" rod that will give you a lot less spatter and a much better looking bead than 6011.  If you're looking for "pretty" then just about any rod will be better than 6011(or 6010).  When using 6011 or 6010, I can usually get a better "looking" weld doing vertical down.Unfortunately, there is not one single technique that will produce the best results in every situation.  There are just too many variables.  If you were to post some pictures of your welding along with the pertinent details, there are plenty of folks on here that could offer tips and constructive critisism.Work HARDER, not smarter! ------------------------ Miller Bobcat 250Millermatic 251Lincoln Precision TIG 185Hypertherm PM 600Hobart 135 HandlerOxweld 400 FlameMaster
Reply:there are many factors, i dont think anything in welding is simple or comes that quick to most. in general..heat mst be hot enough  to get some melt   but not overheat the rod....you must see the puddle, make sure your hood is up to the task....if you cant see the puddle well youre dead meat....then move the rod so the .filler  flows evenly, thte puddle is a mix of parente metal and filler from  the rod..that becomes the bead.... tie in must be smooth, uniformity, ..rod angle, arc length, ..for v up, whipping out of the puddle lets it cool and you put the next puddle on top of that...apologies if this is stuff you know... that said, practice a lot..
Reply:Practice makes perfect!
