I'm learning to weld on my new Miller 180, things are going well. I was showing a friend how to figure the settings (with the matrix on the inside) and noticed I'm almost out of wire. It came with "Spool of Hobart® .030 in (0.8 mm) solid wire". I want to keep the same size, and keep it at solid wire, use it mostly for small projects and auto fab, but when i went to order some there are tons of choices as to type of wire, bronze, carbon, nickel, etc. Also i might go with a large spool this time. Any help on which is best for my usage, and maybe a place to find competive prices for it.Last edited by Steel185; 10-05-2009 at 04:44 PM.78 Z28 406ci, 600hp - 96 WS6 LT1 daily driverMiller 180w/autoset
Reply:You only use steel wire for welding steel. A 10lb spool will last longer and save you money.Last edited by Jack Olsen; 10-05-2009 at 05:34 PM.Jack OlsenMy garage website
Reply:Largest spool you can fit in the machine is 8", 14 lbs.ER70S-6 is the correct wire type for welding steel with solid wire and shielding gas.Hobart, McKay, Lincoln and ESAB all make good wires. Going with the cheap foreign made stuff may cause other problems, then again, sometimes it runs fine.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
