I use a burn barrel to burn several boxes per month of confidential documents. They don't burn well because stacked documents allows the flame to go out before it's all incinerated. I saw a burn barrel with turbo-slits cut into it that spun the flame. I was also thinking of putting a grate 8" off the barrel bottom so I could put some kerosine in the bottom of the barrel below the box of paper and have the turbo effect on the bottom. Ideas? I need to burn to ash. I have a plasma cutter....
Reply:The best one I have ever seen was a section of pipe maybe 36" in dia. and 4' tall. Kinda like the center section of a propane tank with the endcaps removed. It was sitting on 3 or 4 concrete blocks. They loaded sticks, logs, etc and it burned like a champ. I am thinking it garnered it's efficiency from the opening in the bottom...sitting up on the blocks.
Reply:The updraft must have been very very goodspace bar............Another thing to consider is the fact you're burning documents.Ever try to burn a phone book. Come back a week later, and it's still smouldering. You can't burn tighly packed pages of anything. You have to belly up to the bar, and spend time feeding smaller amounts of pages into the fire. No easy fix, unless you gotta wallet full of cash, or stop by your local crematorium."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Invest in a shredder, just a standard one that produces the ribbons, not the crosscut kind. When you get a can full, through them on the fire, they'll burn up quick. You don't by any chance work for the gov't do ya?My name's not Jim....
Reply:A good forced air blower would help. Think forge. We used to use leaf blowers to get burn piles cranked up fast. You will probably need some sort of top grate to keep from blowing burning paper out the top if you use a powerful fan or blower..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:cut the bottom of the barrel out. you will have a cylinder. raise the barrel off the ground 3-4 inches and then burn what ever you want. this will burn all the paper you want. i have burned hundreds of barrels full of paper, documents, debris over the years. the best thing is when the burn is done, move the barrel and wheel barrow the ash off. the barrel will burn out eventually. mine usually last a year.
Reply:cut the bottom Attached Images
