Hi there,The attached picture is a burner's choke. The first design has the slot that you can see in the picture. However, I changed my mind now and I need to fill the slot back. I do not want to use a patch, so my idea is to weld it. Any idea on how I should do this; so it is smooth inside and out. The choke is made out of mild steel pipe. I appreciate any help.Thank youAlfredo Attached Images
Reply:Alfredo, the easiest way would be to slip a carbon rod the diameter of the inside of the tube in, MIG up the slot, and break the carbon out.Grind down the outside as you desire, it's only a burner choke.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:Well I don't know the first thing about what a burner's choke is or its diameter or length but how about something like cutting a copper pipe in half lengthwise and wedging it in the choke under the opening and weld over it. Won't the weld NOT stick to the copper and make the inside sort of smooth when you take the copper out?
Reply:Steel sticks to copper to a degree depending on the silica content. I've used it many of times, but when it comes to large areas it can be a bear to tear off. I've even used soapstone before. I guess it all depends on how smooth you want the inside. Ceramic backers do a great job, but I don't know what other shapes they come in. That gets me wondering if you can use a chunk of coffee cup.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom. |
