found something you guys might be interested in... Made by Metabo and it's a 6" grinder/slicer.. looks and performs like a regular angle grinder, but when you turn the guard 90 ° and put in the slicer blade (.045 thick cut off wheel) it's 10 times better than an 4.5" grinder for cutting metal... like a portable chop saw but with the dexterity chops saws don't have.... I've used it cutting tubing square and round, flat stock, sheet... most anything I need to cut, I reach for the Metabo first now... it's a little pricy (180-200 bucks) but it's heavy duty (12 amp, 9000 rpm. and had a neat locking nut that will let you change disc without tools... nothing but your bare hands ! the discs are cheap and last a good while. It's not much for side grinding since the blade is so thin... but about the best handcutting tool I've found. a 4½ has to hog out a 1/8" kerf when cutting but with a blade that's only .045 it cuts cleaner and faster than a regular disc...it's handier than a shirt pocket ! here's the only link I can find on the web with a picture... john http://www.jimslimstools.com/detail.aspx?ID=2942
Reply:looks awesome, i use 4" norton cutoff discs for sheetmetal. btw, did you hear about the slab caster's "fireworks show" on the 4th?, my dad said it was coming out the top of the building!!StangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:I think we call em zip disc's, up here. I have one 5" makita grinder, set up with one of these. Only rule... you really want the gaurd on for these blades. They're so thin, that if you twist your wrist any, they come apart really bad. But they'll slice trough a 3/4 inch bolt really quick. I used it to cut tin for my hayshed roof. Kinda felt like I was cutting through butter.Lincoln 225 AC/DC, Hobart 140 Mig. Reply:i call em zip disc's too, i know dewalt makes an attachment for their grinders that has the guard but also has a base like a circular saw doesStangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:The base would be a real nice feature. That would iliminate the side to side issues, and less chance of breakage. Hmmm might have to think about making one for the makita grinder.Lincoln 225 AC/DC, Hobart 140 Mig.
