A friend of mine just got (bank owns) a studio condo. He is looking for a way to suspend a queen-size been 4.5 feet off the ground. He has a corner to work with (bed will be supported on two sides - one long and short side) , and I have suggested the following:build a frame from 1x4 (may be taller), adding another 2x2 frame at the base of the taller frame. This smaller frame will be used to support the mattress, either with the addition of some ply-wood or more cross-braising (no box-spring).I am thinking of anchoring some plates along the TWO walls, which could be bolted to the mattress frame described above. The un-supported far corner would have a support-pole going to the ground.Do you think this design is sound? My friend is planning on having a simple desk w/chair under this bed, so we don't want it falling on him...his wife would not appreciate it all input is appreciated...thanks,manny
Reply:Have you drawn out the plans? Are the walls brick or wood???This is very scary How much total weight would this bed need to hold???? |
