Deer Blind Stand

I built a wooden Deer Blind 6x6x6. Now I want to build a metal stand for it.   I'd like it to be 6' tall  built from 2x2x3/16 angle iron. Was thinking of an oil derrick type stand with the floor support, 4 legs, 4 X's (braces) and 4 horizontal braces a foot off the ground on all 4 sides of the stand.  Does anybody have any experience or ideas in this matter, Opinions?  Is it overkill?  thanks, Rik
Reply:Que Paso in SA!I personally don't think your idea is overkill. It sounds about right IMO, although I might be tempted to use 1/4" on the legs. I've heard of a few trips ruined be collapsing blinds. Stout is always safe. MAKE SURE YOU GET OR BUILD A GOOD LADDER!!!! They've been known to spoil a trip or two also. Don
Reply:Hey I just built 2 this year from 1' and 1 1/4' tubing and built the legs out of 2 3/8"stubs and 2 7/8" true legs.  It turned out awesome.  Just set mine up last week.  Ladder from 1 1/4 tubing.Hank"Remember the Brotherhood"9-11-01
Reply:We built a few out of 1" square and they were too flimsy.  Did not collapse but always was spooky to to climb and on windy days.  However, I'll tell you something that is fairly cheap and easy, which is 1-1/4" black pipe.  1" pipe is a good slip fit so you can make short legs and then slip the larger pipe over when you get to the lease.  We also weld old plow discs on the bottom to act as feet.  If you are in hog or cattle country or worried about wind, you can drive a piece of rebar thru the disc to keep the blind from flipping.Get it hot and hit it hard...

Reply:The stand is only 6' tall, overall height is 12'.  If I go any higher I'll be looking at the tops of cedar & small oak trees.  We have to cut our own senderos to see the deer.    Also plan on bracing with X's on all 4 sides.   I'll post updates when I get them.
