Reply:Here ya go. These are my two and a replacement face piece. They are the Original pancake brand ph#208-764-2330. If you have never used them, be aware that you have to fit the balsa face piece to your face which requires a bit of sanding and patience. If not done properly you will hate these hats. If you do it right youll like em. They are avaliable in left hand too.I have a radnor24s auto dark in the flip up which is the only hat I use, not sure why I got the other, but it is a lot lighter.https://secure.ramweldingsupply.com/...imageField.y=8 Attached ImagesLast edited by Stuckwldr; 06-13-2007 at 11:10 AM.
Reply:So why would you choose one of these over a normal hood? Not being a smart***, I'm just wondering what the appeal is.- John
Reply:Personally, I like them because they dont let light in to reflect off the face plate, they are very light and dont slide around on your head when working out of position. You can weld with your head pointed down and they dont move. They sure arent for everyone, but if you work outside a lot and fight reflection, they may be something to check out. I have several other traditional hoods including a miller bwe and I always go for the pancake.
Reply:That makes sense. I'm just a hobbyist doing tig in my basement - occasionally when I'm curled over something trying to weld, the helmet is both falling off and my little clamp-on light is shining into the inside of it. So now I see the benefit, thanks.- John
Reply:They're great if you use 'Skoal' (sunflower seeds for you youngsters) as well, because it doesn't drip onto your shirt when you spit in the hood.
Reply:Wonder if anyone can tell me what these original pancakes cost these days? A friend of mine gave me one a couple of months ago that was brand new. He said he bought it around 10 years ago but never used it. He wouldn't let me pay for it and he didn't remember how much he gave for it back then. I love it after I got it to fit my face. I don't use anything else. I just wondered what they cost these days, if anyone out there knows.
Reply:who makes themComplete Fabrication Shop specializing in pipe fabrication. Also offering heavy steel fabrication and sheet metal work.
Reply:I don't have any pics but I use the little round one with an arcone shade 10 autodark lens in it. I like it because it is light, compact, cuts glare and is real nice for welding pipe when you can't roll it. It will get into places no other hood will. I got it from my dad over 10 years ago and he had it for many years before that. I have no idea what they cost nowadays but they are expensive. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.

Reply:Does anybody know where I can buy a good replacement headband for my Pancake hood?
Reply:they are like 60-70 bucks and they accept standard 2x4 filters and lenses. Pretty cheap compared to my miller bwe. wish i still had mine they come in handy. Nice to have a good auto hood, a standard 4x6 or a 2x4 with a flip window and a pancake on hand.edit oh and a soft hood with an auto lenseLast edited by i4sillypwr; 10-31-2009 at 01:05 AM.
