The 350P is a 4-roll feeder.   I need to run some 1/16 fluxcore wire in mine and I only have one pair of v-knurled 1/16 rolls, from my Suitcase feeder.  The rolls will fit in the 350P.   My question is, has anyone here run their 350P with only one pair of drive rolls in it?   How did it work?   Will there be any problems with the feed motor or gears?  I plan to take the other pair of rolls out and tie up the other tension arm so it doesn't rub on anything and the wire can pass through.  I figure I should put the rolls on the front pair of spindles, since they're closest to the gun feed tube.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:Hey guys, I have a Lincoln Power Mig 350MP.I just browsed the Miller site....ack, ack, ack.......Anyways, the Miller has the Lincoln beat by 50amps, but wire speed is the same max.Neither Miller or Lincoln offer 1/16" drive rolls for this unit on the units page in the catalog.  So....I looked at the guns. Miller and Lincoln both use Python guns for aluminum. The lincoln lists 3/64" for aluminum and .045 for steel.  Miller calls theirs an XR-A Python. The Lincoln is using the Python Plus. Probably the same for the most part.Miller has their own guns and Lincoln uses the Magnums for solid and cored wires..045 is 1.2mm3/64 is 1.2mm  (so I don't understand the use of fractions and decimals for this purpose)1/16 is 1.6mm so I am not sure how much play is in your gun liner to run 1/16" Now, the catalog does not show 1/16 for my 350MP, but if I go to the back of the catalog and look, I can actually get 1/16" drive rolls that fit for alum, 3/32 for cored wire and 1/16" for solid wire. Whether or not the machine will feed it, or have the amperage to run it, or the gun liner will need to be changed is a whole other ball of wax. so, I say, give it a try and let me know what happens in the real world so I can make notes in my books!!!!Sorry I haven't been around for a while guys. Life sometimes just gets me down and I gotta take some time off. Kinda made me feel good at least someone noticed!!! Reply:DesertRider, You replied while I was posting. I got your PM too.The Lincoln unit is a 2 roll drive. WHAHHHHHH. I know. Miller beat that one up, huh?So to answer your message, nope, never run a 4roll on just 2. And I really wonder how much marketing hype that really is. Lincoln does have 2 and 4....just not on the 350MP.So be sure and post up here with results.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:Thanks for the reply, Joker.  Yes, we did miss you on the forum!Miller may not list 1/16 knurled v-groove rolls available for the 350P, but the same rolls that fit the 350P also fit the Suitcase feeders, among others, so I got that covered.  I have swapped rolls between my 350P and my Suitcase 8RC and my friend's Suitcase 12VS.I didn't know the 350MP was 2-roll.  I thought it was 4-roll like the Miller.  Yeah not sure how much the 4-rolls help.  Miller sells the XR aluminum feeder with only 2 rolls and it works fine.Gotta go get to work now!MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:I got it all set up today.  It appears to be feeding the wire fine without slipping.  Will be welding with it tomorrow and see how it works.  Fooling around with this T-8 wire should be fun...MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Well we welded with it today and it feeds the wire just fine with only 2 rolls in it, no problems.  The T-8 wire wasn't as hard to run as I was led to believe.  More finnicky about stickout length, torch angle and travel speed and the slag gets outta hand quicker than other wires but overall not the monster I was expecting.  Still need more practice with it but didn't do bad at all considering it was the first time either of us ever touched that wire (my friend came over to take part in the experiment too).  Of course us knuckleheads completely bypassed fooling around with beads on plate and horiz fillets and went straight to vertical-up t-joints.  Didn't come out too bad.  3/8 and 1/4 plate, 8" t-joints, vert-up, 1/16 Hobart Fabshield XLR-8 E71T-8-H8 wire.  19.5 volts and 160 ipm seems to work best so far. This is the vert-up root.  Lower right end is the bottom/start of the weld.  I was advancing a bit too fast at first, which caused the fingers in the toe lines for the first third of the weld.  Slowed it down after that. The pics don't show it but the face is pretty flat and even and the legs are equal on both sides.  The defect is the uneven toes toward the beginning of the weld.Last edited by DesertRider33; 10-31-2009 at 09:24 PM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Ok,thanks for the post up.Now the question....Did you like it enough to put your name on it and sell it to the customer?Cuz, really, that's the important part. Reply:Hey DesertRider!IF you have any 1/16" smooth vee you can always run those on the bottom/top and the v-knurled on the top/bottom.  Other than that you can always get away with just running the 2 roll's on the 4 roll system.  It will only cause you problems if you running a long gun length or don't have a way to keep the gun fairly straight. As far as the XLR-8 goes, you need to run a 10 degree drag angle with this wire.  You basically have to "pull" the puddle up.  This will help with the "heavy" slag you mentioned and keeping the bead flat.  I'd try to run around 21 volts and a bit higher amperage (200Amps - 190 IPM WFS) once you get comfortable with the product.
Reply:Thanks Highlandwelder.  I tried a down angle on the wire and all it did was dig big holes in the plate.  Maybe I'm just not used to running a vert-up with ther torch pointed down.   I'll give it a try again and see what I can make it do.   I did turn down the inductance from 40 to 15 and that helped freeze the puddle faster allowing me to move up in smaller increments instead of trying out run the puddle.  Still need to work on evening up the toes.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
