I just whipped a couple of these together. The idea for them is to be spacer blocks between the frame of a van and the brackets for airbag helper springs. Our brackets bent on us, so we have to straighten them and put these in for extra support.  So one plus for me is since they won't be seen neatness doesn't matter.I'm no pro at doing this so how do they look? Be honest with me. Do they look like they should work or should I toss them and try again? The steel is 1/8 inch with a piece of steel pipe down the center. Reply:throw some paint on it and go, strength is all that matters thereStangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:What kind of welding was done here? Those welds don't look very even, and there is massive amounts of splatter. Try chipping off the splater after welding. Also, it looks like there must have been a problem in the machine setup...
Reply:with that much spatter than its deffinetly stick welded
Reply:It was a wire feed using no gas. I used the flux core type, don't know exactly what kind off hand. Like I said I'm not a pro by any means.   Since it isn't visable I really don't care about the splatter. I'm pretty sure I got the splatter from my lack of know how. So far it has been holding up good. Time will tell.
Reply:looks like turkey sh it.   but most of my first welds looked even worse then that. It just takes practice to get better.
