What's best? (Assuming they're not the same thing.)I'm doing some renovations and need to get some 150 x 100 hollow aluminium sections finished. They'll be door jams and and window frames and they'll be in the weather, but our weather is mild.ScottYeah, I carry.House keys, wallet, some change, usually a newspaper, maybe a pen.
Reply:I would go with powder coat.   It si more cost effective, and you could do it your self.keith The older the boys, the more expensive the TOYS!!Previous owned;Linde 300 Amp welderMiller Gas drv welder, Tumbstone,Dayton Miller ac to dc converter,High frequency unitLongevity LS60PCurrrently owned;Longevity WeldAll 200PI
Reply:So if cost isn't an issue - it's a small job - and if I'm not doing it myself, what is the best wearing finish?Yeah, I carry.House keys, wallet, some change, usually a newspaper, maybe a pen.

Reply:Scott, I think for that application I would go with anodized.. Powder coat is good for a lot of things but it can also chip or scratch easy. Sometimes, unless done pretty thin, it can look melted or saggy..Plus, being a baked on plastic coating, it does take up space..any tight fitting parts just got tighter...Look around, you will see powder coated stuff everywhere..your BBQ is probably coated, the benches at the girls school are too...then go to a gun shop and look at some of the items there.......oh wait, you're in Australia, arent you?....never mind...
Reply:Depends on what finish you're looking for.  If you want a color anodize, you will have to find someone that use the inorganic dyes, as organic dyes will fade quickly with constant exposure to sunlight.
Reply:Thanks all.I reckon I'll go anodized.I've set myself a time for this reno and want it done by Christmas. Sadly, all the steel work will end up concealed.then go to a gun shop and look at some of the items there.......oh wait, you're in Australia, arent you?....never mind...
Reply:[QUOTE=scott brunsdon;317862Tek, I know these sort of admissions are going to get me tossed off this site one day, but I've never been into a gun shop. I guess there must be a couple around somewhere (feral pig shooting is pretty big out here), but I've never seen them.[/QUOTE]Scott, no problem there; I was just takin a good natured poke at ya, thats all...all in funIf you look in a K-Mart or Walmart here you can find, in the Sporting goods Dept, paintball guns..a lot of these are anodized different colors..I'm not familiar with the stores there but you probably have Sport oriented stores you can go to...
Reply:It's always in fun till the shooting starts.I have to confess I wouldn't mind going on a pig shooting trip. (I'm safe saying that here because my leftie mates aren't likely to stumble onto this site). I've never shot a gun so I might not be of much use to the boys when we find some pigs, but I wouldn't mind tagging along. They're big ugly buggers. And the pigs are pretty ugly, too.Yeah, I carry.House keys, wallet, some change, usually a newspaper, maybe a pen.
Reply:I would anodize it as mentioned before it is a fitment piece.
