I am in need of some plans for an Aluminum Dog Boxes. Singles, Doubles, and Triples. Thanks,Dustinwww.officialprojects.com
Reply:The boxes I have built are custom boxes, no drawings, just a plan of what the customer wants. When useing aluminum, singles start at around $800.00. I will let you in on a little secret, hunters are hard on boxes, so you will need to weld them solid, not just on two sides. When using square tube. The other thing they do is pin the box in the truck on all four sides of the box (not good) and when they go full tilt threw the ditch chasing a deer, the welds crack, because the bed of the truck moves, and the box can't be made to flex. So the best way to keep the box in the truck and keep some body from stealing it, is to drill two holes in the floor of the bed and use two hood pins on the center runner and the hood pin clip will be under the truck. That way the box can move (not flex) and they would not think of looking there to steal it, until now........
Reply:I have built several boxes.Whatever the guy wants is what he gets, usually its the slide in ,not the box[4x4] kind.i use 16 gauge 3/4 inch steel tube.NOBODY is harder on a dog box than a deer dog hunter,i know i used to be one.Good luck you will make a lot of new friends building dog boxes, always go the little extra to make it strong.
Reply:OK I give up... What is a dog box.???? Where I live you can't drive were the deer go and it is illegal to shoot from the road... or even across it. This Canuck has got to know!
Reply:lotechman, I need to move to where you live.... Hunters around here are crazy, they will run you right off the road when they are after a deer. I'll post some pictures later of some Iv'e done.
Reply:Lotechman, down here in the southern U.S.,[in some parts]Deer hunters get to run deer with hounds, the dog box is what you haul the hounds in.I used to keep anywhere from 10 to 25 fox/deerhounds .back when there was plenty of timberland to hunt on.I havent had hounds in 5 years as developers have taken over most of the land. Now there are some people that shouldnt be able to own a dog much less hunt and it only takes a few of these people to make all hunters[dogmen] look bad. There was nothing better than on a cold frosty morning than listening to a pack of [good] hounds get after a big old buckandlisten to him take them on a good 2 hour run.I never really cared if i got a deer or not i just loved to watch good dogs work and listen to them run.We ran fox during the off season.[you got to love it ,to understand it.
Reply:Thanks... I'm not much of a hunter. I somehow doubt the meat would much good anyway after running the animal. All the hunters I work with want a fast kill and they want the musk glands out immediately.
Reply:I'm not a Hunter of Deer..... But I do like helping my friends out. This one has a Poo-Poo tray under it, and a Liquor cabnet.... Attached Images
Reply:I like the poo poo tray. LOL!!!
Reply:This one is for a small truck with a tool box. I don't have any pictures of some carbon ones Iv'e done, but ya get the Idea.... Attached Images

Reply:Thanks Jake, you won't get rich building these things.... like I said I don't hunt. I just do it to help out the guys that like to hunt and have nice things...... |
