I'm continuing to add to my little workshop, to facilitate using my new TIG welder, I bought a new bench grinder (the usual type with a stone on each end of the shaft).I will use one end for Tungsten sharpening, given my level of skill it'll probably get a good workout for a while.I am not sure what the best grinding stone is for Tungsten sharpening, any advice would be appreciated. I'll be using 2% (Red) mostly, both 1/16 and 3/32.Regards to all.Working on cars and bikes is my hobby, learning to weld the pieces together is my quest.
Reply:If one stone is more coarse than the other, I would use the less coarse stone. Other than that, I have not heard of a specific stone more conducive to grinding tungsten.
Reply:Its good to have something in the 60 grit range for doing the rough work and removing most of the contamination/shaping then its nice to have something quite a bit finer to finish it, maybe 220-400 range.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:I use a Diamond wheel on a dremel tool mounted vertical in there little drill stand. (it works great) spins at 5000rpm (I chuck the tungsten in a cordless drill) I still do my share of dipping when my shakey hands are not in sync.I have been using the same little wheel for over 6 months. (If I am sharpening a new tungsten I will get it started on my dedicated green wheil in a 8 in bench grinder)Hope this helps Attached ImagesA rich man is not the one who has the most but instead one who needs theleast. Reply:UltraChop, I have a very similiar setup, LOL. I built a cheesy stand to hold my Dremel and a guide to put my tungsten at something around 20° Attached Images
