I'm building a new metal security door/screen for the front door. I have all the pieces I need except for what seems to be a common part. I've looked at neighbors security gates and doors and they seem to use the same block of steel that has two depressed areas to recess the latch and deadbolt plates. I have no idea where to find these. Ideas?

Reply:I've never built a gate but from your first pic it looks like a piece of angle with rounded corners on one side and then the 2 notches cut out for the lockset and then welded onto the gate. The notches don't look like anything special, just 2 square cut outs.
Reply:Perfect! Thanks.

Reply:Go to your local steel door supplier. I used to do a lot of steel door mods and you can buy those pcs. drill a couple of holes in the door to weld them in, slide the pieces up and in and weld them in.
Reply:Most any local metal supplier can get you a lock box for a gate. You need to know what size tubing you're using to make the gate frame, as lock boxes come in different sizes for different tubing sizes. Also need to know if you want one lock or two, since they come as singles or doubles.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
