What are your welding qualifications ? i posted some of my pressure tickets and journeyman cerificate from what i hear alberta is the only province where your journeyman ticket is good all around the world heres the story of my first pressure ticket using stick. For my initial ''B" pressure ticket i had to butt weld two pieces of six inch triple xxx pipe together and let me tell ya they call the inspector the TERMENATOR for a reason ! mr fred dully  it had to be done in the 6 g position or 45 degree angle starting from the bottom with your root with 6010 electrode and traveling to the top 3/4 of the pipe in vertical and then a 1/4 horizontal your root could not be over the thickness of a dime on the inside of the pipe and not under aswell after the root came the hot passes with 7018 and finishing with a 7018 cap which also had to be within a certian tolorence after making it passed the inspector with flying colors  i had to cut the pipe into slivers and perform a bend test and if one had a break, tear or inclusion of any kind you failed and not pleasently aither ,when my peices were cooling for bend test i was out having a smoke and one guy come out and says to me the terminator made me feel like a clown he just siad ''YOUR DONE!" not sorry you didnt make it what a jerk ! i passed my first try and a big hand shake and smile from the TERMINATOR to boot ! what an experience ive never been through such an intense sweat pooring mind scrambling test in my life you only have three hours to complete this test.this is only one picture, image shack wouldnt hold that much in one picture so ill half to down size my other tickets into a smaller page

Reply:What I mean to say is that you are in a perfect location to start a career.  There is lots of work.  There is a demand for petroleum if you haven't heard.  That means the oil and gas industry will boom.  They are still dickering around with the Mackenzie gas pipeline but it is going to be built. The tar sands in Ft McMurray is expanding.  The heavy oil plant in Lloydminster is expanding. The winter olympics has pumped up construction in the Vancouver area.  The Federal government is desperate to buy your vote any way they can and they have started spending our money like drunken loggers coming to town. The other thing you might not have noticed is all these old white hair miserable old *******'s are all around you.  They want to retire and all the young people want to go to work in their nice suits and drink Starbucks coffee.   You will be wanted BIG time.  If you drive through Edmonton right now you can see many signs from the highway "welders and fitters wanted.  Now hiring"I drove that route to Lloyd last month. My advice is to get your time in to put that C ticket in your log book.  If you don't like welding then go on to millwrighting, heavy duty, fabricator, ironworker, and yes even carpenter.  They are all trades where there is a demand for the additional skill of welding.  When layoff time comes and things slow down are they going to lay off the welder, the millwright or the millwright who can weld???????  If  you really want security be a welder with a industrial first aid ticket!  You are in the catbird seat and all you have to do is go for it.  Also stay away from substances and excessive drink.  I have seen people who earned over forty grand in six months and had nothing to show for it.  That was over twenty years ago when forty grand was a lot more money than now.You could own your own house in less than ten years if you put our mind to it.You don't have nothing!!!  You have a great future ahead of you!!!!Last edited by lotechman; 08-21-2005 at 01:40 AM.
