I have been wire feeding steel for personal and small applications for about 8 years now.  I would like to get into some small aluminum projects.  I dont want the bottom of the road but dont want to spend the money on a pulse push pull machine either.  Does anyone have any input for me to find a spool gun/machine combo for a reasonable price but good quality output as well?trey
Reply:Would need to know what machine you have now.  That way, we can figure out what spool gun will work with it.I am tired of Ketchup, I want the Gravy...
Reply:I have a hobart 140 that I use for steel wire feed.  I know I need a larger machine for the aluminum application.  That is why I posted, I need to find out what machine/spool gun would work best for the small end of industrial manufacturing.

Reply:i just kept an eye out for a 220v 200 amp+ welder with a spool gun for a good price. i ended up with a miller regency 200 with a spoolmatic 3 for $350. when deciding how many amps you need go to miller's online weld calculator; http://www.millerwelds.com/resources...calculator.php ; and see what you will need. i do 1/4 inch aluminum.by the by you will have to use 100% argon.Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools
Reply:...Well...back in 1982, I bought a new Millermatic 200....used it for 10 years...some weeks I ran 2-3 #45 pound rolls of .035" and .045" steel...I made a lot of woodburning heaters....did a good deal of Spray-arc with the same machine...never had a problem....then in 1993 I bought a used, but 'like new' Miller spool-gun...not sure what the # is...it's the first generation unit, big black thing.....but plugs right into the machine with no additional connections...good for up to 1/16" wire...rated at something like 400 amps....$300 or so I paid for that...  This kind of stuff should be fairly low priced now on the used market....old, and a bit cumbersome to use....but gets the job done...  For TIG work...I still like my old 1956 P&H model 400....that's a 400 amp A/C-D/C Tig machine sitting on top of a 20 or so gallon tank/cart type unit...water cooler built in, and on the back there, space for 2 330 ft. cylinders....2 TIG torches on it...a 225 amp and a 400 amp...use up to 3/16" tungsten....  And yes, like a couple other guys said....when you start talking push/pull units....it's big $$$ there.....Dougspair
Reply:.....The best welder in the world?....uh.....wouldn't that be Superman.....all he does is just look at something....and there it is........And...if a guy was the best welder in the world....why would he be looking at this site anyway, nothing for him to learn here......wouldn't he be making millions of $$ selling books, giving speeches or something?Dougspair
