when I weld, I assume I must be sweating in my gloves. The moisture has nowhere to go, so it goes back into my hands... when I pull my gloves off it looks like I've been taking a bath.My fingers (tips, precisely) are starting to get quite dry. They get stuck looking misfigured and prune-like. Does anybody have a fix for this, or is it something I'll just have to put up with?(I'd like not to be putting on lotion every day.)My first thought was "something moisture-wicking!" but that would probably burn, so...Keeping it down in the hood...literally!
Reply:how about plain old talcum power?
Reply:Buy a good pair of leather welding gloves that should fix your problem.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:You must be using gloves that have a rubber or other non-breathable layer in them.  Like said above, common leather welding gloves won't give you that problem.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:Sounds like you have a case of hyperhydrosis. i.e. excessive sweating in layman's terms. If that is the case, it is not something new and rather something you have had a long time. You can use an Anti-perspirant on your hands that can be doctor ordered. Or, you could try carefully to use an UN-scented antiperspirant and see how that works. The talc will make your hands feel like a ball of slime I would guess.Granthttp://jackalopefab.com/MM210Synchrowave 200DXMiller XMT350 w/60series feederMiller Bobcat 250 with SGA 100 and spoolgunHTP PlasmaFull Machine shop with everything
Reply:In the summer when it's hot I like to have a few pair of gloves to cycle through during the day to keep the moisture build up to a minimum.
Reply:Try taking vitamin E supplement's as well, this will help with your skin and handling the damage from the drying out but only to a degree and you will have to treat with a good moisturizing lotion at the end of the work day.  I'd also switch out through several pairs of gloves and look at getting a boot dryer to use in drying out your gloves when you get home because wet gloves are a breeding ground for a host of foul things.
Reply:Try getting some cotton glove liners and changing the liners out. I've only sweat during the hot summer days and your hands will become like leather anyways.Weldor/ Certified Inspector
Reply:whats causing your hand to sweat? the heat from the torch?
Reply:Enjoy  your overly moist and pliable hands now why you can. In 20 years or so you be keeping lotion or udder balm in you tool to keep those finger tip from splitting open come tis time of year.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
Reply:Ok I weld in class and initially my hands did sweat a bit in the standard smaw blue gloves with the thick padding when it was August / September but they don't in the leather only mig gloves which I'm using right now with smaw.  If you can use these with stick then you may not sweat as much or at all but will have to practice a bit of additional care in regards to heat and might consider adding a layer of reflective heat tape to the back of the gloves.
Reply:I tried using the MIG gloves today... it didn't seem too bad. You're right though, it's not much for heat.Does Tillman make a glove that's just side split cowhide and nothing else? The MIG gloves I used today were the 1350s.Last edited by Drake Aldan; 12-04-2009 at 02:29 PM.Keeping it down in the hood...literally!
