Here's a neat pair of tools that I made up a while back.  The slip rolls work great.  If I were to do it again, I would have rotated the angle piece on the brake so that one of the flat legs is used to clamp the work down.  It does work OK as built. Attached Images

Reply:Looking at this and the belt sander, you definitely do things a few steps above the usual cobbled together shop equipment!Welcome and please feel free to post more photos!
Reply:Man, you are a fabricator extrordinaire!! awesome...please share more, more, more! (Please....)Does the top roller on the slip rolls move up and down with the adjustors, or just under load with the thickness of the steel, limeted by the turn knobs? (Had to tell with these eyes...)Last edited by Canoe2fish; 12-21-2005 at 03:21 PM.
Reply:Hi C - the top roll just slides up and down.  I only use it for thin guage.  I will post an image of the ring roller I built for the heavier stuff. Thanks for the kudos!-happy holidays!- "If ya can't be handsome, ya may as well be handy!"   HTP Invertig 201Lincoln Power Mig 255CLincoln SP125+Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38
Reply:Great work, inspiring. Looking at the lower roll.  Did you break the band saw blade then weld it back together to get into the metal  or did you make an opening.  Also, on your break, are there extension springs on the hold down bolts underneath the top angle.  Why would you have rotated the angle?
Reply:Thx tap - I have a bridgeport that I used to mill out the openings.  On the brake, I do have springs on the underside of the angle - they work well.  I rotated it so I could fit the springs under there, but in hindsight, I should not have.  I may modify it at some point.- "If ya can't be handsome, ya may as well be handy!"   HTP Invertig 201Lincoln Power Mig 255CLincoln SP125+Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38
Reply:Nice work! Are the driven and top rollers geared to each other?  Also, what are the bearing rings at each end made of?  They're really thin... Polished steel?JohnL
Reply:Hi 9x20 - the rolls are geared together - I think they need to be to pull the metal through.  I bought a wide spur gear (1.5" wide) and cut it in half to make 2.  The bearings are standard sintered bronze sleeves available anywhere.  I think they are 1/8" thick.  I buy most of my stuff from McMaster-Carr.  Shipping is prompt and very reasonable.- "If ya can't be handsome, ya may as well be handy!"   HTP Invertig 201Lincoln Power Mig 255CLincoln SP125+Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38
Reply:Hi.Thanks for the reply.  You said the gears were 1 1/2 inches wide?  That must be at the pitch line, right?  Does that mean the rollers are 1 1/2 inch diameter??  They look larger.  If they are 2 inches, how did you get the gears to mesh, or did you use 2 idler gears?  If you used idlers, it sure would be nice to get a picture of the gear side of the 'roll. :-)Roughly how long are the rollers? The adjusting screws seem small to be pressing on brass bushings. Is there a pad or something between them to lower the psi on the bushings?  I'd think the bushings would tend to dent, and would thin out near the dent, so they wouldn't be round anymore.  DO they dent the bushings?I apologize for hitting you with so many questions at once.  Curiosity is a bad habit of mine, especially regarding such amazing stuff as you've done!Regards.JohnL
Reply:Hi 9x20 - the rollers are 2" dia.  I took a 6 pitch 12t spur gear 1 1/2" wide (McM-C #6325K55) and sawed it in half to make 2 single gears.  The rollers are sized to accept a 24" wide sheet.  There is no need to press on the bushings hard enough to dent them - with geared rollers, the sheet easily pulls through them.  Overall, it works pretty well.  You can see where I used it on the shredder/vacuum project...Happy holiday!- "If ya can't be handsome, ya may as well be handy!"   HTP Invertig 201Lincoln Power Mig 255CLincoln SP125+Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38
