i ordered the shop outfitters bender today. does any one have any opinion on them. do i really need the the handle.i will be bending 1 in sg tubing for my first project
Reply:I don't have an opinion since I don't own one.  I messed around with my HF this weekend making a hanging pot rack.  I took a lot of trial and error since the manual is so crappy.  I finally got it right, but wasted some steel doing it.  The manual would probably work for someone who has used a bender before, but mine is the first one I've laid eyes on.  My biggest problem is how to use what bending die, and where to place it.  I hope yours comes with better instructions.  The scroller attachment is pretty straight forward, but the bender still has me scratching my head.I'm looking forward to seeing your bending projects.
Reply:i should get manual if it is good i will let you know.mite be able to copy it for you                             ken
Reply:Thanks Ken.  The pot rack is being painted.  I'll post a pic when it's hung.
Reply:Dulknife,I've had the Shop Outfitters bender for a few years and i really like it.  You'll probably need to anchor it to the floor to bend that tubing, and the ratcheting handle might be a good idea.  I don't bend tubing but thick strap is a chore.Mike
Reply:Dullknife, Can't give you a specific on the handle as I only have a Hossfeld and can only relate my experience with that machine. Bending thick wall 1" square tubing with the long cheater handle as supplied by Hossfeld will cause the 650 lb. welding table that the bender is attached to a bit of skittering on the shop floor. Even with 1" there is a lot of torque to overcome. By the way, if the bender was solidly mounted there would still be a significant amount of grunt work to get 1" thick wall bent.
Reply:check out metalcraftcanada.com , quality tools for a lot less dough, seems they've put a bit more thought into itKeep your stick on the ice
Reply:Dullknife,Ive had a shopoutfitters bender for about 6yrs.I havent bent any tubing but many other solid rounds and flats.I actually have some things I made on shopoutfitters website.I am featured as the first items made by our customers section.
Reply:If anyone needs a manual for the Hossfeld bender I can print some up. This is for the older model #1 and dates from back in the '50s. I have the manual for the Hossfeld #2 that is provided with the bender, but it won't reproduce as well, might be considered a copyright infringement and is available from Hossfeld for around $10 anyway. I you are interested, the manual is available for the cost of shipping and printing from down at the local print shop.
Reply:jimbo, I went to that site, but couldn't find the made by our cust. section...a little help please....tks

Reply:Shop outfitters makes a fine bender.  I have had one for about 20 years.  It is worn some but still works fine.  I also have a baby hossfeld that I love.  Bought it from Harvey Lacey several years ago.  I also built and sold a smaller version with video and hinge forming tool for about ten years at canton texas first monday.  You done good.
