its been awhile since i have had to take one of these test for a pipeline company and i cant seem to remember all the ways the inspector wants the coupons ground down? the 2 for the bead you grind the bead down flush and smooth i remember but i just cant remember the rest. gettin old i guess and the brain is having enough of a time remembering my name!! any guidance would be appreciated. merry christmas.

Reply:assuming your testing to API1104, here's a link to an older version of the standard. It's out of date, but the infor you're looking for is probably still valid.http://www.scribd.com/doc/17391067/API-1104starts on page 8 for butt joints, and goes from there. Tells you where the test straps are cut from the pipe, how many of each you need for each test, etc.The bend straps are ground flush for root and face bends, so far as I know. Nick-breaks are not ground at all. Transverse tensile specimens are ground smooth on the sides, but the root and face are left as welded.
