i plan on building front loader for my ATV the only problem is there a way to ave hydraulic without another gas engine?thanks
Reply:you might think about electric- 12 volt---like used on a lift truck  --tommy lift--most of them are  an electric motor that works the pump, had one on an old    '56 ford one ton, would lift 1000 lbs
Reply:Easily.  A ATV cant have that much weight in the front anyway. If your ATV has a electric Winch,, just utilize that.  My ATV has a 2k pound winch.   Since ATVs are also small compared to a tractor, your angle of operation doesnt have to be that much.
Reply:I have been building one for a while for a small lawn tractor that doesn't have hydraulics and only has a 1/16" sheet metal frame.  It is running off of air with an on-board air compressor and a couple of 1 gallon tanks.  Other than clean up it's pretty much done.  It uses 4 air shocks as cylinders and some ball valves to control it.Neil
Reply:Got any pictures?!?Sure, I can fix it... I got a welder!!!
Reply:suggest you go to this website, andask your question.http://www.machinebuilders.netthey have a lot of home built loaders.wlbrownwright city, mo.
Reply:I have a dry fit pic but have to figure out how to resize it.  Will post it in a little while.Neil
Reply:Here's the only pic that I have taken so far.  I'll take more pics as I clean each section up.Neil Attached Images
Reply:What kind of ATV do you have btw. Makes no sense to make a big bucket thats stronger than the frame of an ATV.  You will also need some sort of weights in the back. imo, I dont know why people like to turn ATV's into implement vehicles.  Thats an accident waiting to happen.
Reply:Because they spent a good deal of money on an ATV and don't want to just take it out ocassionally.  I have seen pics of a small loader on an ATV.  If the frame for the loader is placed in the middle of the ATV there really shouldn't be a need for rear weights as all of the load will be in the middle instead of the front.Neil
Reply:Fallon, I just joined today and I hate to start an argument right off the gitgo. Most of the weight of the loader will be wherever the lift actuator is anchored to ATV frame. Where you have your lift anchors will put weight on the center but if you try to lift anything very heavy I think you'll go beyond the rated load of shocks. That is a very good job of fabricating, by the way.                                 MikeLast edited by mla2ofus; 04-15-2006 at 06:46 PM.Ol' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:RubenZ, I edited my post after you read the first version. I agree that Fallon will have the weight on ATV center, however, I don't think the shocks will handle the load with anything like dirt, rock etc.  As for 2000 lb winch, I'd rather have one that will slide the tires than one that will leak all the smoke out of it when overloaded. I too have a 2000 lb on my ATV. Tighten the winch cable 'til the tires slide. Then put it in 4 lo reverse and spin the tires in deep, then try the winch again.                            MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:I would venture to state that the 2,000lb winch is designed for what is called "Self Recovery" meaning that it isn't meant for some yahoo to pull 2000lbs up a canyon, it is meant to get some guy who got his ATV stuck in deep doo doo out of the doo do. I think a winch on an ATV is a terrible idea because most people have no knowledge of how dangerous they can be. Ever use a winch on your truck? Put the hood up and use the remote control from inside the cab or from a safe location. A broken winch cable can snap and can cut your head off faster than the Taliban. On an ATV where are you going to position your body safely? I bet most guys are on the ATV, powering the winch AND giving the thing some good throttle to boot. If that load cable snaps, the rider is going to get hurt. No ATV or tree stump is worth MY life. As with any task at hand, use the right tool the right way and don't get hurt. Just my opinion from experience. I have a winch mounted on front and back of my F-250Superduty 4x4 that I use at work. Having said all that. Have I ever used my winch in an unsafe manner? **** YEAH. Reply:A word to the wise :  these guys ARE correct ,about the danger . My cousin WAS killed (head ripped off) , trying to pull a plow ,out of the ground it was stuck in . No laughing matter . In this case, he was using a big tractor with 2 big tires at each wheel location . (BIG TRACTOR ) really bad stuff
