Well here it is - I completed my cart today. I painted it with PPG Tecstar ALK-200 acrylic enamel. I found this to be a good paint (tough as nails) and cheap (about $40/gal plus catalyst). When i took the pics the paint was not set enough to put my welder on it - I'll post another pic later with my toys on the cart. The knobs on the back...... I welded 3/8" rod couplings inside the tube steel and picked up some knobs at Graingers. I also have a piece of 1/4" x 1 1/4" bar stock to span across the knobs. This is where my CO2 tank goes. The knobs hold the bar stock that secures the gas tank in place. Now I feel drunk with power - I'm ready to build the world!! (sometimes I really impress myself!!!) Seriously - I'm now looking for my next project. Here are some pics of the cart.... Original frame..After paint...The knobs I was talking about....
Reply:Hey, that is a nice looking cart. Mean looking paint too. Looks like it's not quite black, maybe kinda gray?? Could be the light too. Anyway, excellent job.
Reply:Wow, very nice looking. I like the addition of the diamond plate. Very cool !
Reply:Nice!!! I just finished my MIG cart today as well. Your paint job came out way better than mine LOL. What gun did you use to spray it on? Gravity fed? or is that with a brush.
Reply:Yes - I did use a gravity feed - Devilbiss HVLP FLG gun. I love this gun - you can't go wrong with it - it even makes my paint jobs look good!!!
Reply:Gee, it's going to break your heart when you scratch it.
Reply:Outstanding work! It's so good looking, it's almost a shame to put it into service. There are no small projects
Reply:Man, that's sweet! Be sure to post a pic with your welding gear on it.
Reply:If that were my cart, I'd be racing it around the shop. It looks like it would take corners pretty well with those WIDE wheels.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:That thing is so cool! Nice work.Yeah, post some pics with the welder and stuff all loaded onto it.Where'd you pick up those casters?Patrick
Reply:Only thing I notice missing is a place to hold your cables.
Reply:When are welder companies going to move into the 21st century and start offering "wireless welding" or "802.11g compliant welding"? No more cables to get all tangled up in the floor. Never get the ground and work cables mixed up again!!! Uh-oh, I think I just gave away a great idea.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Looks sharp, Definately get some pics of it fully loaded.
Reply:Thanks for all the comments - I love this place!!Scott - What do you mean "scratched"?? I'm scared to get it dirty!! Patrick - I got the casters at Graingers - www.graingers.com - part number 2DA60 - a little overkill - price was right - left over from job Mark |
