this one was for a local home, ended up taking longer to paint it then to build it (it has been raining here for most of the last 8 weeks with high humidity when it wasn't) I could only get one coat on it a day .... it would be mostly dry the next day... the turn outs on the end were fun with the Arch's, makeing a arch go around a turn is time consuming to say the least... it took some time but it came out great. the color was the customers pick ... not what I would have gone with but it looks good.  we are working on a much higher end job right now ... inter locking ovals collared and riveted together there are no welds showing at all every weld on it is covered by a collar or is a plug weld covered by a wooded cap and sill plate.  I will post some pix when we get more of it done.MP Attached ImagesHeat it and Beat it!!!http:www.Fallinghammerproductions.com

Reply:my first question was the same as Tapwelder's.  How do you bend railcap sideways like that.  Great looking work.
Reply:thanks for the kind words.the cap and stringer were bent around a form (I beleave in this case 7" od pipe welded to some plate) the cap is a bit harder to get to bend even , I just go slow with a torch on the out side of the bend and flaten on the anvil if it starts to kink bending forks are a must, when we did these there was two of us working on them 1 guy would play the torch on it and hold the back side with a funky fork we made to do a brass cap (now that stuff is hard to get to bend nice!!!) it has a hinged plate on it to help get rid of the marks on the top of the cap. the other guy would use one fork to hold it down to the plate lean into it to push it around the bend and use anouther fork to keep it from twisting. it sounds hard but once you get the hang of it and remember to pay attetion to the heat (were and how hot the bar is)  it go's fairly easy.  for the flat stock we just  toss it in the forge and bend it around the form (sueing the forks to keep it flat ) and then flaten it out on the anvil and adujst it to fit the middle of the curve for the cap (the cap is 1.5 wide bent to a 3.5" raidi so the bottem inside raidi to make the 1" match is around 3" I would have used 6" pipe but I didn't have any and it only take a few min to match them up.)sorry about the home page it is a bit fried at the moment, it should be up in some fasion with in the next month or so.... I hope.... mabie...... evil web masters .... and curse all old servers.......wait  I think that is allready done ....Heat it and Beat it!!!http:www.Fallinghammerproductions.com
