My wife actually asked me to make her something. It's a trellis to support two climbing rose bushes. Made from 1/4 x 3/4 and 5/16 round hot rolledsteel.Andreas.I've got pics, but I can't seem to attach them. I've read the intstructions but they do not seem to jive with what I see when posting.Last edited by andreas; 05-24-2006 at 08:21 PM.
Reply:Here are a couple of pics I hope Attached Images
Reply:looks good
Reply:Andreas your wife got to be very please with the outcome of that project. It looks perfect. How do you do the bending? Nice bit of work. Good job on the pics as well. Reply:Nice job on the bends - very symetric.  Just remember with each completed project for the wife you are allowed to go out and purchase one new tool for yourself.
Reply:4 shorts:I made the bends, the arcs and the circle in the middle, with a ring bender I threw together awhile back. See the picture. It's crude but it works quite well, and it only cost me about $12.00 CDN to buy the three metal casters from Princess Auto. The rest, including the 2 ton jack, I had lying around. And Arc It, I like your Rule For Tools!! I have been looking at a 14" cut off saw!! Hmmmmmm......Cheers!Andreas Attached Images
Reply:Hey you know that's pretty ingenious and by the looks of it you know how to use it as well. Oh man you had to go and mention Princess Auto! They just opened a Hugh outlet not far from me and I could camp out there. So many goodies and not enough money! I got lazy a few months ago and purchased a ring roller. I machined new rollers for it so I could roll square stock and I'm pleased with it. You put some good thought into yours. Congrats! Thanks for the pic. Reply:Paul,Don't get me started on Princess Auto!! Guys here (Toronto Area) either love it or hate it. If you're careful about what you buy, it's a great place. It's my favorite place to browse. If my wife knows I'm going there, she sneaks my credit card out of my wallet. Andreas
Reply:Andreas, could you post additional images of your bending jig or maybe the blueprints ? Sure looks ingenius !
Reply:Andreas here is a few pics of the rolling tool I purchased awhile ago. Very similar in the way it operates to yours. Reply:Shlomgad,A couple more pics attached. Did you see Pauls machine posted on this thread? WOW!! I'm betting mine didn't cost as much, though. Sorry, no blueprints or plans, just sort of made it up as I went. I can post more pics later if you're interested.Andreas Attached ImagesLast edited by andreas; 05-25-2006 at 03:04 PM.
Reply:Thanks. What size metal can you bend with it ? Can it do pipes to ? What material are the casters made of ? - ( since they should be able to support a huge force)
Reply:Shlomgad:The casters are 1" wide so I suppose anything around that size or maybe a little larger would work. So far the thickest material I have used is 3/8"with no problem.  The casters themselves I purchased from Princess Auto(kind of a Canadian Harbor Freight store with less and cheaper stuff). I purchased them because they were on sale, they were the correct diameter, and they were metal. As it turns out the metal seems to be pretty soft as some round stock I bent in it wore a groove into the casters. I have yet to try bending pipe or tubing, so far just flat bar and round stock. Hope this helpsAndreas
Reply:nice home made tool
Reply:Thanks. I have added this jig to my "wish to try and build" list ....
Reply:Andreas, that is a fine tool you made!  I'm a nooby (here on this bb and to welding as well), but I can see I need one of those.  Not sure exactly how all it works, so I guess I'll hafta go look at commercial ones til I figure it out.    I've been bending around tree trunks and with holes in my table.Just remember with each completed project for the wife you are allowed to go out and purchase one new tool for yourself.
Reply:I too want to build one like yours. Andreas, how did you attach the top roller to the shaft?                 MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:On the subject of building your own ring roller, there are others posted on this site also. I don't have the exact thread handy, but just enter in a search for "ring roller" You can also use Google to search for "ring roller plans" in fact that's how I found this site! Shopoutfitters makes a nice one you might want to take a look at.The one that 4shorts has looks like a chinese copy of theirs that I've seen on ebay.  I'm currently starting on a ring roller that is a bigger version of the shopoutfitters one, and is going to be powered. http://www.shopoutfitters.com
Reply:Andreas, I designed and built a roller too.  It works fine but I wish I had seen yours before I built mine.  Nice work.
Reply:Hey All!!Haven't checked back here in a while. In response to Ol' Stonebreakers question, refer to the thread that Yard dog was kind enough to post. Essentially, the top roller's axle sits in the notches at the top that you can see in the first picture. The pressure from the jack on the work piece holds the wheel in place. The top roller is welded to the axle, and that is the part you turn to move the piece and bend it. Hope this helps, if it's not too late.Andreas
Reply:new to this. What is the jack for? What is it going up against?
Reply:what a great idea! crude but effective.. and the trellis is cool too ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:If you look at the pictures you'll see that the jack sits in a kind of moving cage. There are two upright pieces welded to the top of the cage that have notches cut in that hold the axle for the top roller. The jack presses up against a bar welded to the bottom of the two side plates that hold the bottom rollers, moving the cage down and in turn pulling the top wheel down onto the work to be bent. Release pressure on the jack and push up on the bottom of the cage to move the top roller up to allow the work piece to be inserted between the top and bottom rollers. Give the jack a few pumps to move the top roller down onto the work piece and then about another half a pump on the jack handle to put pressure on the work piece and roll it through. Continue like this until you achieve the arc or circle diameter you are looking for. Yes it's definately crude but it does work. I hope this wasn't too complicatedCheers!!Last edited by andreas; 07-03-2006 at 10:38 PM.
