i built cable reels for my ranger 8, that is mounted on a small trailer. do i need to insulate ground leed from trailer or just +.
Reply:Some would argue with me and you probably don't have to but I would, for the little extra work it takes. I would especially worry about any charge going back to a welder that has any type of circuit boards. Also on those rainy or damp days you may not want to pick anything metal off of a metal trailer if your feet are damp. You know what i mean if you have ever bare handed a ground clamp when your feet are a little damp. This is assuming you mean the Welding machine is also mounted to said trailer."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400
Reply:Most of the home made(esp. the trailer bearing kind) or lower end bought reels only insulate the hot. Every time I see this I think "how the hell do they get away with  that?" I have shell-ryn brand reels that are both insulated. I just know I would touch both and get hit, or one of my guys would lean against them soaking wet and get zapped. Lots of guys only do one- but not me.
Reply:thanks, im going to change my git-up
