Sooner or later, somebody's gonna ask about log splitters, so here's my small one.Beam is about 5 feet of H colum from an old car lift, Engine is 5hp with pump attached via a lovejoy coupling. The tank is a 20# propane tank (natuarlly) with an intake strainer mounted about an inch off the bottom so it doesn't pick up any water from condensation.Axel is a pair of axel stubs from a small car welded int the end of pipe and has been bowstrung for additional strength. Reply:i like the spltter i've thought of making one of those
Reply:This is really the first real project I made with my welder.  I used the arc because the mig wasn't powerful enough (Pre-HH175)Everything it is made from is from the scrap pile except the cylinder, valve, tank and wedge.  It fits my tractor 3pt and runs off the external Loader pump.  Had a buddy make up the hoses at his shop.  The trolley is a little week as is the cylinder hold down, but It splits like no tomorrow...Edit:  Don't know why the picture won't show up but here's the link to ithttp://www.woodshopphotos.com/galler...50/logsplitterLast edited by gungatim; 01-14-2004 at 03:53 PM.The toys:Hobart 175 AAA Spec multi-mig 65Lincoln 200 AC "Tombstone"Jackson Nexgen

Reply:Nice clean design, Tim.  If I ever get around to cleaning the bird crap off mine, I'll post a cluttered one.
Reply:I like the design but what I want to know is how you got your dog to split the wood. I am no longer the wing master..*sigh*
Reply:Well, you see he steps up on the milk crate and puts his little paws on the valve handle.  It has an auto return feature so all he has to do is push it once and it locks forward, then returns when it is fully extended....I had to use live cats on the splitter to train him though...  : )The toys:Hobart 175 AAA Spec multi-mig 65Lincoln 200 AC "Tombstone"Jackson Nexgen
