I got a little more work done on the front bumper for the Jeep, and thought I would post a few pictures.First, the 1/4" winch plate was welded to the body of the bumper. For process, I put 3 1" tacks on the back side to help control distortion, then welded up the top from end to end. Flipped it over and complete welding the backside from end to end. I was unable to do these in a single bead as my steadying hand got too hot through the glove, plus I found that as I moved along, the gun would be getting further from the bead. I need to work on motion:I also completed welding up the open ends of the tube:Thanks for the look,Mike
Reply:awesome, post some pics with it done and on the heeplooking good so far. i'm planning on making bumpers for my samurai pretty soon
Reply:Thanks jakkyl,The bead looks better than it shows in the photo. The lighting was bad and there is a terrible shadow. If you are interested, the entire build thread from the start to where it stands today can be read at http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums...d.php?t=711954Thanks,Mike

Reply:The DeWalt plays some country, some classic rock, but those are overridden whenever the Red Sox are on.Yup, Makita 4 1/2" grinder. Used it so much today grinding down welds and removing mill scale that my forearms are still numb. BTW, the bead on the winch plate is much better than it looks. There is horrible lighting casting a bad shadow, making it look like the bead didn't wet very well. Thanks for the look.Building a Jeep from the ground up as a graduation present for my kid.
