I'm about to pull the trigger on a Miller Elite helmet.  The LWS has them on sale, likely cause they ordered a tonne and now the Digital is out, leaving them with a bunch of regular Elites.  I figure that the savings on the non digital will make it worth it.A couple questions though....Without the didgital EMF sensing will I get flashed with lower amp tig, or out of position? Anybody using these helmets get flashed much?And.... what colour is the arc through this lens? I will try the helmet on but I don't think I'll get a chance to strike an arc with it before purchase.
Reply:Order the Digital Elite online. You will have your helmet in a few days at a better price, and tax free. The Digital Elites are far superior when working in sunlight or at low current. You can't beat their X - Mode in these conditions. We bought 2 from Indiana Oxygen online and paid about $265 each for them. Now the old helmets are collecting dust.CharleyMiller MM252Miller Bobcat 225NTMiller DialArc HF / DIY Cooler2 Victor O/A TorchsetsMilwaukee 8" Metal SawMilwaukee Dry Cut "Chop" Saw 5 Ton Wallace Gantry Various Grinders, Benders, etc.
Reply:Totally agree. Hold out for the Digital. I have had both. My elite is collecting dust whilst my digital is used every day. It's a great hood to be honest.

Reply:I have the elite, as I wasn't even aware the digital existed when I bought my helmet (I just heard great reviews from locals of a local weld shop... and walked in, they recommended me a good autodarkening, and i jumped on it... no regrets)It's fine for low amp tig imo... I can go down to 10 amps for fusing thin stainless sheets and it gives no hassle. (machine can't go any lower! :[)It is kind of annoying that sunlight will trigger it even indoors, but I just change teh sensitivity and it's fine.I always left my helmet face up when I left work, so dust and crap would not get in it... so when i put it on in the morning it wouldnt go down the back of my neck... lol. Well, the sunlight over the rest of the day would drain the batteries (took months to do though).... At least I'm assuming that's why my batteries died! good news is I could still weld on the base shade (I think it'd 3) and didn't get arc eye. It would still darken when the arc got bright enough even with the batteries dead, from the solar power alone.... but if I got too low on the amps, I knew about it -.-Zero problems with getting flashed when welding, even in out of position, and deep deep cavity welds.really surprised me there honestly.Only downside, is that my work does not supply the lenses... they only supply the regular rectangle jackson style... so I have to buy them on my own (even though a little less than half of the weld shop uses Miller helmets of some sort)

Reply:i looked through a digital elite as the PRI show back in december.....and it screen looked amber to me.  It was definately not the usual green tint of most all other AD masks............BUT this was just looking through the lens.....not when "darkened."Last edited by BurningMetal; 02-01-2010 at 09:57 AM.
