Reply:What's rain?I use one of those cheap 10x10 canopies from Wal-Mart for shade on some jobs. I welded the poles so that they don't disassemble except at the corners so it sets up pretty quickly. But it will not tolerate any wind at all unless you weigh it down with big C-clamps or something. They make large umbrellas just for this purpose, too. I see them on road-construction equipment all the time.
Reply:When I need shelter from the sun, I use a Caravan 10'x10' canopy. I got mine at Costco; they may be available other places. Much more solid than canopies made by QuickShade and the entry-level EZ-Ups.In the past, I've also used the Add-Awn sport shade. It takes a bit longer to setup, but it's bolted to the truck so it tends to do very well in situations involving wind and rain. The shade that covers the bed of the truck doesn't work quite as well as the main canopy; in high winds it tends to pull loose and start flapping around. The Add-Awn weighs about 1/3rd what my Caravan weighs. Prices are 50-100% cheaper now than when I bought mine 6-7 years ago. Could mean that they're going to stop making them. The one I bought was a great, well-made product. The only thing I can fault it for is setup and tear down time... |
