Even on vacation i cant stop...heres a pic of fused stainless steel gate at the border crossing into Canada on the US side when we went across this past weekend...mrs zap says i'm nutzzz  nothing gets past me......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:It looks fused to me, kind of hard to tell by the pic, but the weld looks to be slightly concave.

Reply:I don't think that was fused.  Concavity doesn't really have much to do with whether it was fused or not.  I could make a 1/4" fillet weld concave.If it was fused, it likely would have at least a little undercut on each piece...and I don't see any there.

Reply:Typically, a fused fillet weld will undercut on both pieces of metal, not just one.  I've done a lot of work in the vacuum, food process, and pharmaceutical industries, and have probably fused more welds than many welders have seen.  I'm curious to hear why you think this weld was fused, and how they got such large and defined ripples without adding filler.Not only that, but this is a structural item...not the best situation for fusing welds.

Reply:It's not about being "grown up," it's about acting mature.  It's got nothing to do with fun or enjoying life.Years of experience can be a wide variety of things.  I've known guys that, at 25, had a better resume than many guys that had been welding twice as long.  There's a huge difference in experience and time, although the two can mix.For all I know, you were around in the big days of "Oxy-fuel" welding, have 40 years of welding behind you, yet know little at all about tig.  Maybe that's the case, and if it is, there's nothing wrong with it.  You may have build **** that hauled my little *** around as a kid, or protected my life in some way.  I have no idea.I'm not alone here in thinking that the weld posted was not fused.  I do agree that it looks better than most welds that are found out in the world.  I really wonder why they didn't slap on some ugly mig mess like you usually see around.
