Okay, I just know what a brake and a shear is.Brake bends the metal right?Shear cuts it?How can I learn more about sheet metal tools?
Reply:Join metalmeet.com.Best sheet metal site on the netMiller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.
Reply:Do you know any "tin-knockers"? (HVAC duct fabricators)"SOUTHPAW" A wise person learns from another persons mistakes;A smart person learns from their own mistakes; But, a stupid person.............never learns.
Reply:You might want to look for videos on metal work from Ron Covell, the 'Tinman' aka Kent White and Ron Fournier.  A Google search will get you links to all of them. I have videos from all of them and you'll learn something from each. Fournier has a one video on large tools like the brake and another on small hand tools.Fournier and Covell made a joint video on hammerforming.  Kent White has several on the English wheel as well as shrinking and aluminum work. And as was mentioned join Metalmeet.

Reply:Ron Fournier has a great book- Metal Fabricators Handbook- which covers tools, metals, layout, hand and machine work, and lots more. Its 20 bucks new, less than that used on Amazon or ABEbooks.comAnother great book is Sheet Metal Shop Practice, by Leo Meyer. Its the book they use to teach apprentices in the union, and it is simple, to the point, and covers everything.you can usually find one used for around ten bucks online.
Reply:Sheet metal is hard work, and there are so many different aspects of it. I myself am a tinner, been at it now for nearly 3 years, theres a hell of a lot to learn. Im fortunate to be working in a company that does lots of different kind of jobs. We do vessels, small sheet metal components, transformer pieces (square to rounds etc.), frames (which are technically fabrications but do include sheet metal components).I have a few pictures but unfortunately i can't upload them due to customer confidentiality etc. Don't think rolls royce would appreciate their parts bein posted for everybody to see.My advice is to look into it, see what you want to do, if your getting into as a job can you cope under pressure because im under pressure to get jobs done within a specified time.Other than that good luck to you and if you decide to get into it hope you enjoy it as much as i doCheers,Kyle
