I am working on something that is going to get chromed later, is there anything I need to do special or keep an eye out for? I need to grind on it a bit, and I wonder how fine of a finish will look good?
Reply:The smoother you can get it before chroming the better..Grind Buff Blend Polish...It's like a fine paint job..Underlying prep is what counts...The final coat is what brings out the prep work..Crappy finish = Crappy chrome......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Hrmm, I am going to have to talk to my customer and see how much prep he expects me to do and how much the chromer is going to do.

Reply:If it's tube work, be sure to have vent and drainage holes tapped in; they won't chrome sealed tubes in most instances. Most chrome shops will drill them if you don't, and they might not drill the holes in a place you are happy with. It's a good idea to take the part by the shop and go over this with them BEFORE they start the process!!!And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
