I have narrowed down my search between the Lincoln PT225 and the HTP Invertig 201.  Both are great machines with good reputations and companies.  I really wish my LWS carried the HTP it would be a no brainer.  I like to support our local businesses and if a problem with the welder ever comes forth it would be alot easier to get it repaired.  I would probably have to pay shipping on the inverter.  I know the inverter would use much less electricity than the transformer but this is not a big deal for me.  I wish I could demo them both so I could make a fair decision between the two.  Wich welder would you chose and why?  Thanks for the help....................RichLincoln 255XT Power Mig                                                                    Lincoln Precision Tig 225Hypertherm Powermax 30
Reply:That's a total toss up.25 amps would be nice, so would the flexibility of the inverter.grab a quarter, pick heads for one, and flip for it!!!And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:I have the lincoln precision tig 225 its great buy it..got it free shipping no tax under $2000.00 to my door. ive welded all types of metals and it really gives a good weld...thats my vote..
Reply:Depends on what you do, and how you do it.If you are going to be using this welder to make money- especially if its a tool you will be using full time as a weldor, I would go with the Lincoln. Parts are available everywhere in the USA, TODAY. I have been on job sites in towns far from home, and Lincoln and Miller machines are fixable, parts are gettable, and replacements easily rented, just about anywhere.HTP gets you a bit more bang for the buck- but at the disadvantage that there is only ONE dealer, nationwide. If anything happens to your machine, you have to deal with them, wait for parts to get to you by next day air. If you are a hobby type, where your time is free and money is tight, then HTP could be a better choice. As to inverter vs transformer-- I have both in my shop. I probably like the inverter better, and I like the smaller breaker, lighter weight, and easy portability for job sites. But both weld just fine, especially the newer machines, and you will be happy with either.
Reply:I dont know anything about HTP, but I also have the Lincoln225 and love it. Just a hobbyist, but worth every penny i spent, it was about $1800 delivered.Dave
Reply:I am just hobbyist welder.  I really like the idea that my Lincoln dealer is 15 minutes away.  The HTP has  more features and is more adjustable than the Lincoln.  I don t think that I would ever take it out of the garage but you never know.  I went to the LWS today and checked out the Lincoln.  It looks like a sweet machine.  I spoke in length about it wth the dealer and he didn t put down the HTP but was quick to remind how close they are if the lincoln ever need service.  They are selling the Lincoln for $2100.  It comes withe the torch, pedal, plug, small amount of consumables and cart with a tank holder.  The HTP lists for $2395(i could get it for $2200) and comes with torch, pedal and I would have to pay shipping($95).  I am leaning towards the Lincoln.Lincoln 255XT Power Mig                                                                    Lincoln Precision Tig 225Hypertherm Powermax 30
Reply:I have the Lincoln PT225. I can't imagine what other options you would want that it doesn't have. It a good solid machine that wont let you down.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.
Reply:You also may want to consider resale value. Lincoln is a very well known brand name. Miller and Lincolns, without a doubt, enjoy a stronger resale value and a higher price than something like HTP. HTP welders are sourced from Italy and, I believe, sometimes eastern europe, and there is NO US support beyond the importer. If he should go out of business for any reason, you are SOL.Lincoln, on the other hand, is a publicly traded multinational corporation that has been in business for over 115 years. Unlikely to go out of business due to cancer, the economy, divorce, or retirement. Just sayin...You get what you pay for.
Reply:Got my new baby..........went with the Lincoln (took everyones' advice).  So far so good.  I need alot of practice.  Tiggin' is tricky.  I love how much control you have with it.........Rich Attached ImagesLast edited by rwells173; 03-06-2010 at 04:52 PM.Lincoln 255XT Power Mig                                                                    Lincoln Precision Tig 225Hypertherm Powermax 30
