I need to make a small accumulator tank that will be fed by C02(1000psi max). The accumulator will be about 14" long x 1.97" ID. The wall thickness will be 3/16" thick. Material is 6061 T-6 hardenss. I am going to machine caps for both ends. They will be about 1" in length with a steped shoulder machined into it. In these ends will have pipe threads for 1/2" NPT. I did some searching on Pressure vessels and there is just way too much math for me. I do not want to produce any shrapnel either. The caps will be TIG'd on using a Dyn 300DX. What filler should I also use. The end caps are also 6061 T-6.If any certified pressure vessel people here think this is too dangerous I will not attempt it.Thanks.   T.J.
Reply:You are getting into a dangerous area here.  One thing to remember here is that the material in the heat affected zone goes to it's weakest condition or in this case 6061-0.  This is something that must be engineered.I am not an engineer.

Reply:You need to hydrotest it when it's done............

Reply:i dont see a problem with this if you give the "caps".006 shrink fit before welding!!shrink fitting is "the best bang for the buck" when it comes to pressure vessels...Do Not Rely On The Weld ALONE!!!  saftey first.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Originally Posted by TJSThanks Zap. You mean cut the caps .006 smaller than that of the ID of the tube.T.J.
Reply:Originally Posted by zapsterNO NO NO!!!you need the caps .006 bigger than the finish I.D.heat the tube so it expands..drop in the caps..let cool so you cant get them out then weld......zap!
