6G question

I've been practicing the 6G with SMAW 6010/7018 2"schd80 for a while almost  100% I recently switched to the 2G and 5G and found them to be more difficult than the 6G is that normal (i've been at this  for only a few months)
Reply:Not necessarily more difficult.  Just different.  I happen to agree that 5G is more challenging than 6G position at 6 o'clock on the joint.  2G should be easier than either 5G or 6G.  I've talked to a couple guys who have mentioned that they would ask new hires to weld a 5G and 6G coupon; because the differences are great enough.  And let's face it, which joint are you likely to weld more of?Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:Well of course, if you have been doing one way for awhile and then jump to another position it will cause hic-ups in the beginning, although once you have practiced you shouldn't have a problem in any position. It all takes time...years.You just have to know where to postion the rod when doing different positions...no worriesLook into trying the 5G-2G test

Reply:I find the 6G to be the more complicated of the tests.  Although I can can easily switch hands with tig, I'm generally like to use only my right for stick.  For a 6G coupon, this means two different angles of attack/vision as you work you way up from 6 o'clock.  On a 5G, you can usually move to the opposite side and it'll be identical to the first.
