Chuffed as chips! Just thought id share a little picture of the first bit of Alu welding ive done with my new machine, thought i best check out the AC function seeing as its a 2nd hand machine. Its 1.5mm plate, welded at 120Hz, constant 90amps (no foot control yet or pulser function ), no filler rod. On that note, i was given 95% Al 5% Mg filler rod by accident (i wanted 5% Si seeing as thats what ive always used). should i exchange it or will it be ok for general garage use? critiques welcome I only want to improve!CheersMichael Attached Images
Reply:Look good to me...work on your "stops" now.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I'd say is pretty dern good.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Looks good psychosis. The 5356 rod you were given will be fine for welding 5000 and 6000 series alloys especially if you want to have anything anodized afterwards. The 4043 rod you wanted is good for welding 5052 and 6000 series alloys as well as castings but it won't anodize well due to the silicon content. The silicon turns gray.If you're just practicing with it...weld until your thumb falls off. - Paulhttp://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories

Reply:Thanks for the comments guys Ill go ahead with the filler ive got and see what i can turn up, its 2.4mm so maybe gives me an excuse to buy some 1.6mm 4043 rod so i have a selection I think the majority of my alu welding will either be for fun or making swirl pots/gas tanks. |
