I'm using a spool gun on mig and have a couple of questions. when im done welding aluminum should my weld be shiny or have a light gray on it? Im also having a problem with very light splatter. could this be my wire speed needs to be bump up? Your thinking why not try it. my machine it maxed out on wire speed. but the problem is that this welder is a prototype and Im showing the engineers how to use it. thanks. here is a pic.
Reply:Not sure but it looks to me like you may be dragging your bead, Try pushing it for better gas coverage. Are you using preheat? Also if you are maxed on wire speed you may be able to drop the amps a touch, especially with preheat. Does the end of the bead run look better than the beginning, build heat as you go? Give us some more info on what you are doing. alloy? thickness? gas? machine you are running."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251 Syncrowave 300 30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200 1 short hood SA250 SAM 400
Reply:I was definitely dragging. I will push tomorrow. I did not use preheat.Im using a auto body welder made by spot pro. specs are aluminum, dont know the alloy. I was given it and told to weld it.. but its probally 40 series. using argon at 25cfm. but I think the reason for my problem was the dragging issue. thanks.
