i'm going to start a rebuild of my trucks exhost and was wondering if any one had a good scorce for some pipe?? would prefer SS as im in NY and salt is the word of the day in winter and i dont want to be doing this again next year. any creative ideas are welcome. local parts store wants almost $8 ft. for some realy thin steel stuff that would likely not even make it threw the winter. there has got to be a better option.thanks for the help James summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:I ended up having to pay around what you're seeing for the last mild steel exhaust I welded up (AutoZone and Advance charge about the $8 per ft that you're talking),so I'd also be interested in where I can get thin wall tubing in the 2"-3" range. Most of this stuff should be around 16-18ga tubing. Luckily it was just thick enough to weld with flux core.Who did you check with for those prices? You want real pricey:check out what they charge for SS straight tubing at the auto parts stores.
Reply:About the same price for SS, but here's one.http://store.racing-solutions.org/
Reply:For small mandrel bends and small straight sections of tubing I use Ace Stainless here in Southern California. Shipping may not be too great from California to NY but their prices on material is great. Here is an exhaust mid-pipe I built for a sport quad with their tubing. Here's a link to their website: Ace Stainless Supply- Paulhttp://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
Reply:I'd check Summit Racing Or Jegs or any other aftermarket place..They have complete S.S. systems in stock.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:FUN -    The price of SS is going to be expensive no matter where you go, especially for mandrel bends. JEGS does have some 409 (read: lower quality SS) available and it has a little better price. I keep alot of stock here in aluminized mild steel, SS and aluminum but again, it's pricey. I'll see if I can locate the part number for the JEGS 409 stuff. BTW - how are my patches coming along?  I can't wait to get 'em!!John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:This isn't a bad price for straight 304, from JEGS: http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0002_756125_-1Stainless works pricing on 304 through JEGS: http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0002_755759_-1Hooker / Dynomax bends in mild, aluminized mild and SS:http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0002_744799_-1John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:http://www.classictube.com/index.aspThis place is in WNY, near Buffalo. Depending on where you are in Rochester, it might be close enough to drive over and pick up your tubing.Hers's a couple morehttp://www.stainlessworks.net/cart/index.phphttp://www.hedman.com/pages/RACING/mandrel.htmlhttp://www.tunerschoice.com/xq/aspx/...qx/Product.htmDo you have K&S Auto in Rochester? I bought some mild steel mandrel bends from their Buffalo store last year. They may be able to get SS.
Reply:wile i did not get a chance to check all the links you all gave me i thought i would offer up a few i found for the rest of the guys lookingj.c.whitny has thease to offer at a good price if you get over $49 shipping is free, so 2 sticks and you are home free.http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...012767/c-10614another find from them was the SS flex cupling with braided SS not the cheepo roled up stuff you get at auto zonehttp://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...012767/c-10614the best price i could get on the SS flex was like $50 localy so i'll be ordering a 2 1/4 X 8" or 10" for about $35 after shipping most likely and adding it into the syatem as soon as it arives.i was able to get the manafolds off so thats going to make the hole process a lot easyer this time as aposed to the garbage i threw on it last year to get by.i also decided that i was going to skip the bent pipe in sted i'm going to do some cutting and rewelding of some angels. if i make 2 cuts of 22% in opisets to each other and rotate the center pice and reweld i get a 90% bend thats not toosquared off as to restrickt flow. so i figure this is a good chance to practis my TIG welding. i di a practis cut tonight just to see how well it will come out and its looking like a verry doable thing. keeping in mind this is not drag racer its just my once in a wile need a truck driver thing so any lose due to abrupt angels is aceptable. all i have to do is cut all my needed angels in 1/2 and they will come out smooth enough to be good to go. as in 4 each 22.5's got me a 90, if i need a 45 i'll just use 2 , and more if needed for more. as for pipe i ended up with a 7' pice of 2.5 O.D from the local exhost shop midus i think, any way he had lots and hooked me up with it for $20 and threw in a 4' pice of 2" to practis on.i'll take some pic's when i get some thing welded up, time restraints may force me to go to MIG but i would like to atleast do a few welds in TIG just for fun and a lil seat time. Reply:You can do it that way, definately cheaper than buying expensive mandrel bends. John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:if i was to do a strait 90% (see pic)without the center section it would defenetly create back presher isues and could have a larger efect but with the smother extra cut it should not be too bad. after all its a19 year old truck, mileage is not so great any way.  and if i dont do the cut and weld option it wont get back on the road any way so mile per gal. wont realy matter any way. i'm out of $$ and options so i can only do what i have for now. that hapens to be strait pipe and plenty of welding options Attached Images summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:Yep, make due with what you have. Zap, you are correct, it is not the best for flow but buying mandrel bends gets pricey. Fun can piece together a system for now and when I'm rich I'll donate some mandrel bends for his next system. Reply:Seems to me, there comes a point that it is just easier, faster, and a better finished product to let the pros do what they do best.  For whatever money you will save, it can't and won't overcome the lifetime warranty offered by most muffler shops.  I would think you would be better served by letting them install it, and spending your time and wire on other things.  The ends just don't seem to justify the means.
Reply:Pookiethat may be great advice for some or even most, but in this case its just not an option. being on dissability keeps my bank acount rather low and with 2 kids its not so easy comming up with the $$ to have the pro's do it for me. the $20 i spent on the pice of pipe was the last $20 i had. i have lots of time so thats not an isue, and i also have 2 full bottles of gas, one for MIG and one for TIG as well as plenty of wire and fillerso doing it this way is the only option for me.although if you would like to send me a C.C. i could charge it all up on i will be happy to let them put in a new exhost on your $  summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.

Reply:what exactly do you think you are missing ??if you are under the impreshion we are making tons of $$ off the covers we are making, you are mistaken. first off we dont make much per cover due to only using quality fabrics, been in a fabric store latly ?? also we dont sell that many, and have been out of fabric scence X-mas and are having truble getting resuplied, we have black but no blue, thats why there are no coverd listed in the store at the moment. and lastly if you think every one that sells on e-bay becomes a milionare you been watching too many infomercials. if you have $40,000 to lend us so we can get a building in town to start up a sewing shop out of then we would be able to make a great deal more $$ by alowing Marie to use her sewing talents to sell and do alterations on clothing, but as it is we live out with the cows and no one is going to drive 20 minuits outside town to get a hem done and verry few are willing to pay for hand made clothing on e-bay due to not being able to see the quality of the work. every one thinks e-bay is a flee market and expects a deal not quality.not that its realy any of your buisness but scence you think i'm jokeing about being broke, as of yesterday my bank acount ballence is -$6.00 and our e-bay sails for the last 30 days is $250 and thats not counting for fee's or caust of matereals. so you realy must be missing some thing if you think buying a new exhost systen is an option. why would you think i would lie about having the $ to do so and would go to all the truble of doing it myself (the wrong way i might add) and then have to put up with the pain involved in climing under the truck several times ? from the few trips under the truck i have made so far i'm already taking almost dubble the amount of pain pill's i would normaly take and am forced to lay down by 4 in the afternoon if i get that far.so let me ashure you i do not have the $$ to go buy one. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
