Paper roll stand

My friend asked me to make a stand for rolls of paper that they use in his shop, and this is the design I came up with.  I don't have all the details from him yet, but more or less the roll is 5-6' long and 3' diameter and when new it weighs ~2,000lbs.My question is what size tubing do you think should be used for this?
Reply:I would use 3x3 1/4'' wall as a min.
Reply:Nice sketch.Will it be wheeled? I assume that is why your transferring the load the the corners rather than the center. If it's mobile then the base will need to be rigid to resist flexing while being moved. I would think 3x3x0.25 would work.I've attached an image of a stationary reel stand for reference/inspriation (greenlee 687). This is designed for 2500lbs. Reply:Thanks for the  info, and that photo!  Yes it will be mobile, he wants casters on the corners.  I just didnt really know how to draw those on the sketch program HAHA.  He said the one they used to use just had a piece of pipe cut in half to cradle the pole, so I guess they dont really mind having to pull a little harder.Another design question I have as far as strength goes is which of these would be a better idea:A) Make the rectangular frame by cutting 45's on each piece... beveling the edges and then building up the weld, then grinding it off flat and building the triangle secondB) Make the triangles first and then butt weld them to the rails?C) These are both dumb ideas and I should do something else!I am assuming the best would be A but not 100% on that.

Reply:Ok, so I have all the material and will start working on it next monday. 3x3x.25"So now my question is:I have a Lincoln 220amp AC welder, what rod should I use to weld this up?I was thinking 1/8" 7014Or maybe grinding an angle on the pieces and doing a root pass with 3/32 6011 and cap passes with the 7014.  So what do you guys recommend?Thanks!
