During "class" today we conducted the "Fluxcore wire with a stick welder" experiment..It did not and will not work..   So heres the start..Heres the "results".. We had the welder down as low as she goes..30 amps..As you can tell it looks just like a fluxcore mess on the piece..But the wire also grew "thorns" everywhere..Some may say "you needed more wire to make it thicker"..Trust me you could put a whole spool's worth in the holder and the same thing would happen... So this myth has been busted by ...zap!'s welding class.. Don't try this at home...Leave this to the professionals...   ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Hahaha...very cool. Man, I missed a good time. I was actually going to bring some of that .020 aluminum and she how much we could melt or get to stick together. Next time.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Great experiment Zap.  I guess we won't have to wirte Jamie & Adam on this one.  I vote that you make a couple of signs to include in your pics in the future:  "plausable"  & "busted".   Hope you class went well today.  Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
Reply:I never really considered trying that one.  I guess the idea would seem plausible.  Interesting results.  And speaking of the Mythbusters... wouldn't it be great to get paid to do that??I don't remember my career counselor offering that as one of my choices! Reply:i dont think i would have ever thought to try that one, its just not designed to be that far out from the power point to the work. i would have expected the results you got, what prompted you to test it ??leadhead, no kidding what a job. its like getting payed to do all the stuff your told not to or just goofing off and getting payed, just too much fun to expect payed as well as getting to do it. what a great job summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:Nice one, now I don't have to try it myself heh.Looks like it heated the whole rod up so it erupted. I think you could do it if you made a feeder type deal.I am curious to see if you can use a piece of tungsten with gasless wire as filler metal for fake tig rig with a stick welder.--------------------GMC WLDR 140A Stick Arc cheapskatenow with 90% more burnthrough
Reply:Like fun4now said you wouldn't have that much stickout.

Reply:One thought here fella's how about trying some .120 flux core wire it may act more like and electrode because of it's size?
Reply:I wonder if CV and heavy drag would help?
Reply:Too funny.............
Reply:NICE!! I'm happy as a girl in her first pair of high heels to know this won't work!

Reply:Zap, that's very cool that you tried this experiment. You're welder won't go lower than 30 amps, what model is it?I use a Miller XMT 300 something or other at work, and was dissapointed it would only go down to 8 amps.  We had some tiny 0.020 thick tantalum cans to weld, and I wanted to pulse down to a couple amps but couldn't.
Reply:Old Lincoln "Idealarc" 300..This is 50's vintage.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Difficult to see anything in the first pic. Did you use a lower setting than was suggested?John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:keep in mind a 4X4 tire requires a larg volume of air, the lil 5gal tanks you get at wally world will barly get it to lift up from flat and wont do a full fill. so try to make it as large as you can get away with in order to be of any use at 120-150PSI its going to need to be large. a nitro bottle and a cool mount might bea better option, or even a $30 car 12V air pump. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.

Reply:thats some serously ugly looking weld, you might be better off sticking with a stick electrode.  summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
