Alright, I have searched High and low all over the boards here and I am not finding the answers I am looking for. So I'll cut to the chase, when up to my LWS today and was looking to spend some money, I was curious how much a Tig Torch would run me, got a reasonable price from the counter guy. Fast foward, get home and pull the torch out of the box and I think I missed something cause as far as I can tell from the Maxstars Owners manual the Cover gas is supposed to flow through the torches power cable. Now The torch I have doesnt seem to have any form of hole for the gas to flow through.Instead it has a second line that runs with the power cable, that lone behold is for a gas hookup, so I am pretty sure I have the wrong torch here. Could be just me, but there is no gas hookup on the front of the machine. So before I return the torch is there anyway to make this whole setup work?Any help would be great.
Reply:Just return it....My name's not Jim....

Reply:Your absolutely correct. The maxstar has a flow through dinse connector so you need to have that style of torch.
Reply:I have a maxstar, and I don't like to route my gas through the machine.    I like to use the two piece torch method like you have.   That way you can control the amount of time your post flow is and pre flow if you want.  You sound like a begginer, and you'll probally move to slow at times and get your stainless to hot, if so you'll be able to extend the post flow of shielding gas this way.    Go buy a little brass piece for 10 or 12 dollars that looks like a trumpet.    It has the threads on each end that you'll need, buy 15' of that green purging gas hose for 75 cents a foot, have the weld shop crimp the male brass threaded fittings on each end for less than 5 bucks per end.    Take it home, plumb it to your regulator through the trumpet part to your small hose on torch, then take your stick electrode stinger and hook it from machine to end of your torch cable and your in business.    Now you operate your gas w/ the knob  on torch.     However if you paid a hundred bucks for the torch, and can get your money back, and pay the couple hundred dollar difference for the rest of the kit that comes w/ the machine, youll get the dinse w/ the hle in it, regulator, and torch, and I'm not sure if it comes w/ the finger control for amperage adjustment which is really nice to have.
Reply:I'd take it back. The machine is suposed to come with the right torch and it didn't. No reason to rig up some other way to get gas. The machine is ment for portability and having to ad more hoses and parts gets away from that. What probably happened is the store sold your torch out of the box to someone else so they could make a quick sale and replaced it with something off the shelf. The maxstar 150 torch is supposed to have the gas run through it and the switch control lead as a little pigtail. I love using that welder. I can carry it to a job in a ships' engine room or void space and not have to run a bunch of cables from my shore based engine driven machine.;"ALL DAMAGE, NO CONTROL"
