Well, my new welder arrived today and when I opened it the wire cover was loose and the front was out of place. Upon closer examination, it didn't seem to be broken, just knocked loose. "A faint heart never won a fair maiden"  so I got out the tools and went to setting it right.  Removed the handle and the sheetmetal body.  There is one screw that just needed to be loosened and the front put back into it's place then tightened again.Put the body and handle back on and good as new. Now I will find out Thursday night if it actually works or not, Let's hope so.Reece Attached Images
Reply:there has been a suprisingly high number of the HH187's getting beat up on dilivery. most fallow up with lose or damaged fans. so i would take a close look at the fan atachments. its been said to be a loud fan and adding a rubber bushing is suposed to help but you should defenetly inshore its good and tight befor continuing.congrats on the new toy. many realy like its performance ...well after they get it put back togather any way.sorry to here you had truble.i thing Hobart should look into a beter company for there shipping. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:I don't believe it is from the shipper (UPS) but the way it is packed.  The box is designed for palletized shipping and not for individual freight.I guess they assume most people are picking them up at a retailer and not having them shipped. There is just a cardboard box and then a folded cardboard spacer, no corner protectors or padding.  This package weighs about 75# so you should expect some rough handling along the way.Reece Attached Images
Reply:I can't believe United Parcel Smashers is still getting customers. I have been hearing an inordinate number of damage stories of late. I have had a few myself. One was a rush shipment of a part. I got the shipping envelope, but it was ripped open and no part whatsoever.  My last roll or wire was almost the same way. The box was completely ripped open and it wouldn't have taken much to get the roll out. I just wish I had another shipper nearby. Glad you got it fixed and congrats on the new toy.
Reply:I won't deal with anyone that uses United Parcel Smashers. They ruin your goods and have to gall to tack on a "fuel surcharge".I wonder what I'll find on my front yard when all the snow melts? A couple of packages shipped UPS never made it here, although UPS says "delivered"Nice save on the Hobart. You did convince me to buy locally if/when because the HH box is really poor protection for a $600 item.Craftsman 230a Buzz-box,  Lincoln 140T & 180T, Century K2789, PUROX W202 O/A14" cheapo chop saw that cuts straight and square!A toolbox of the cheapest Chinese tools money can buy"Real" tools all old reliable Husky/Craftsman/Proto stuff

Reply:Last year I ordered my Miller 175 online and it arrived UPS all smashed up.  I was not happy...and decided I did not want a brand new unit that was repaired.  The place I bought it from took it back and replaced it no questions asked.  They told me at least 50% of the units he sells get damaged in shipment.  Since Miller and Hobart have joined forces, they probably are packaged the same way.  I think they definately need to improve their packaging.MM175 MIGCutmaster 38 PlasmaCraftsman 30gal compressor4x6 HF bandsaw1hp HF floor drill pressRyobi Cutoff SawAssorted grindersNot enough time
Reply:For future use, If anything arrives from UPS with as much as a sneeze mark on it, refuse delivery. If we send enough damaged stuff back maybe those a**clowns at UPS will get the message. Or maybe the vendors will look for another courier.Ya, I know sometimes we want the item "really bad" but then it's partly our fault if we accepted a smashed up box.Craftsman 230a Buzz-box,  Lincoln 140T & 180T, Century K2789, PUROX W202 O/A14" cheapo chop saw that cuts straight and square!A toolbox of the cheapest Chinese tools money can buy"Real" tools all old reliable Husky/Craftsman/Proto stuff
Reply:I bought an expensive camera that was delivered by UPS. I opened the box and there was a phone book in it and no camera. Didn't appear to be tampered with so I called the seller and they said they dropped it off with the camera in it at a UPS office and UPS opened and inspected it for packaging as it was insured. The seller filed a claim and UPS called and told me to flip the box over, that's how they did it, they cut the bottom, added the phone book for weight, and did a sloppy reseal. UPS paid the claim (took a month) and supposedly tracked them down as the phone book was from a city along the route and the weight of the package change was noted at the next stop.UPS is not my favorite shipper either. They like to leave packages marked "Signature Required" on my front porch while I'm away, mark their log as a "delivery attempt failure" when I was home all day specifically waiting for the package (loud dog would have alerted me had I been in the back) and there's no delivery slip to be found, and then there's the packages that weren't on the porch at 9pm when I last looked but are there at 6am. If I get something that was damaged in shipping I just call the seller and have them send me a new one and file a claim with UPS. Hoping enough claims will get UPS to fix things. Here, if you ship from a UPS depot (as opposed to the driver picking it up) the package is inspected before they accept it. Anything electronic needs to double boxed and have a 4" gap between boxes -- if it's insured.Last edited by Visorblue; 02-15-2007 at 09:18 AM.Warning: I have been wrong before!New small workshop, small MIG, oxyacetylene set with a DHC-2000 that I'm learning to use and really like. Reply:Oh yeah, the items I'm missing were all signature required. The ones UPS have marked as "delivered". I'll bet they're under 4 feet of snow, or, sitting in some UPS dudes house.I have the vendor and my CC company involved so I shouldn't be out of pocket. You know, at one time I felt sympathy for the UPS guys/gals, always rushing, long days, hard work. Not any more. I heard they get canned if they drop a parcel off without getting a signature if it's required. If that's true why would they act so stupidly?Craftsman 230a Buzz-box,  Lincoln 140T & 180T, Century K2789, PUROX W202 O/A14" cheapo chop saw that cuts straight and square!A toolbox of the cheapest Chinese tools money can buy"Real" tools all old reliable Husky/Craftsman/Proto stuff

Reply:Early last year, I ordered a Lincoln SP175 plus from a Lincoln dealer on eBay. It was a good deal with free shipping, no tax and an included cart. I felt sick when UPS came and I saw the box. They had simply shipped it in the single-thickness cardboard display box that they come in for retail sales. No extra packing for them! The whole front of the box was smashed and pushed in where UPS had obviously scored a direct hit off of a loading dock. When I unpacked the welder, I saw that the plastic front panel was pushed in about three inches. It was totalled!I took photos and got on the telephone and finally wound up talking to people at the Lincoln Warehouse in the Los Angeles area. They were terific~! In only three more days, I had a brand new one, double-packed and shipped with a local trucking company from Los Angeles. It was perfect and they picked up the broken one and presumably took it back to Lincoln. I can't say enough good things about the courtesous way that Lincoln handled the matter. Oh, yeah, and I can't forget good old UPS, either. Always on time with your broken items!    Last edited by gnm109; 02-15-2007 at 10:30 AM.Miller Millermatic 252Miller Syncrowave 200Liincoln AC-DC 225Victor O-A Set
Reply:I hope Lincoln charged the cost of the repairs back to the dealer you bought from. Expecting Lincoln to foot the bill for such obvious stupidity just drives up the prices for everyone. And really, if someone is dumb enough to ship eggs without a carton good old UPS is only partly to blame.Craftsman 230a Buzz-box,  Lincoln 140T & 180T, Century K2789, PUROX W202 O/A14" cheapo chop saw that cuts straight and square!A toolbox of the cheapest Chinese tools money can buy"Real" tools all old reliable Husky/Craftsman/Proto stuff

Reply:ups left a box in front of my wifes garage. she opened the door with the opener and drove over the package.  the package contained fuel injection parts for my volvo.  many many dollars.  she smashed every carton inside the box but as if by some miracle when the boxes got crushed all the contents got pushed to the side. nothing was harmed.Thermal Arc 185 TigHTP 200 MigCraftsman O/A1942 Bridgeport Mill12 Ton Hyd PressConsew Walking Foot

Reply:I've bought cheaper stuff and found it packed like it was headed for the  Smithsonian! That's crap that they only stuffed a few folded cardboard pieces in there! I'm in line for a couple of NEW Hobart products (AirForce 250A Plasma Cutter and Handler 140) but fortunately, I can drive 3 miles to the nearest retailer and drive it home myself.Good luck with the new machine!
Reply:I guess northazman is busy with his new machine! He hasn't come back to post any bad news regarding the shipping damage so, he must be a cuttin' and a struttin'!   Cheers!
