Got the "toy"..Needed "modification"..

Got the weld positioner that I won from E-bay today..Came as advertised..Everything works like it's supposed to..Out of the box..Needed one of these...20 Minutes later..Done!  Now I need something round to weld.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:It looks like the chuck is going to pull off the turn-table. To me, it would seem the chuck is too heavy for it, what are its weight capacities?I'm sure others are going to ask, thats why i'm asking. Reply:Zap, have you looked inside to see how the rotational ground is configured? Some simple positioners have a simple spring tensioned braided copper strap wrapped around the main shaft.

Reply:Was using one myself today.Had a small run of sprockets to weld hubs to.This one is stationary with an air powered hold down clamp and exhaust hood.   This is the other one I use,with a new fixture on it.They built this fixture because the anal retentive inspector thought the old one had a little to much wiggle room.This is the first test piece,to figure out positioner and welder settings.Well,hehehe,after running the test beads,went to remove that big solid round piece,NOPE....IT`S STUCK HAHAHA.Thats what they get for replacing something that didnt need to be. Darwinian evolution used to fix stupid. Now that humans have mostly removed themselves from the process of natural selection the survival rate of idiots has skyrocketed.

Reply:Firstly,sorry for the thread hijack Zap.  Secondly,thanks for the kind words Zap,Dipper Welder64 and Pulser.   Pulser,it`s just conventional transfer.The machine I use is a Miller-matic 350p running on 480 volts(atleast thats what it says on the outlet)settings were,arc length 50,wire speed 310,.045 ER-70s-6 thermal arc wire,Tri-mix gas(argon,carbon dioxide,oxygen)   What the heck,might as well hijack a little more. This is job I started today,after the fiasco with the above mentioned fixture,we switched back to the old ones to get the job done.Settings were the same except for wire speed,which was upped to 350 ipm.Darwinian evolution used to fix stupid.
