Hello,  does the Lincoln AC-225 actually can output 225Amps?  Is this not on the ballpark of heavy duty capability?  Why do some people refers to the AC-225 as light weight?
Reply:Yes it does put out 225 amps.  It is considered light weight due to the duty cycle. That said these little welders are no slouch.  They will weld all the steel you through at it as a hobby welder.  But if you plan on welding everyday and burning pound after pound of rod through out the day, then you will burn it up on short order.  They just can't handle the Load.Think of a F150 verses and F350.  Yes the f150 can be a work horse.  I have one and have worked the dog out of it.  I have also had to replace the rear gear, chunk, add new springs, new clutch three times,  and this last week a new axle.  If I had a F350, I wouldn't have had to do any of that and there would have been much more I could have accomplished with it.  I just couldn't afford the F350.  So I make do with the F150.An AC225 is a good welder for what is was designed to do, but it isn't an industrial grade, heavy duty welder.A heavy duty welder will put out 200 plus amps at 60% duty on the small end.  The AC225 is putting out 200 amps at 10% duty MAYBE.  That is a big difference.

Reply:Duty cycle is the percentage of time it can weld continuously in 10 minute increments. So 20% is 2 minutes of continuous welding out of 10 minutes time. If you try to make that work in hours you'll go way past what a machine is rated for and possibly overheat it.But whenever you stop welding long enough (which depends on the machine and other conditions like ambient temp) the cycle is started over.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]
