I have 2 1/2 gal stainless steel compressed air and water extinguishers. Whenever I weld or cut I have them ready JIC. Two out of three didn't survive winter storage. Any clue on where to get parts online? I posted this here cause I figured I'm not the only one to find these as necessary welding equipment. They are outdated models, all three different brands but pretty much identical parts."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:check your yellow pages you should have no problem finding someone locally depending on the size of town you live inwhere i live there are several company's that check/refill fire extinguishers
Reply:When ya get 'em fixed, put antifreeze/water in them. Course I imagine you've already thought of that if your hindsight is as keen as mine is                                              MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:I keep ome of those on my truck as well. It has really saved me a couple of times. I have a wand off of a pump up garden sprayer on mine.
Reply:If Simplex is in the extinguisher business near you you should be able to get replacements for about 5 bucks a can.  Many of the manufacturers of water cans went out of business, so their products have to be replaced.  If there ain't a Simplex shop in your area try other extinguisher servicers.  You may have to give 6 or 7 bucks at an independant.
Reply:I haven't checked mine lately, but I guess I need to make sure they are functional BEFORE ...I need one..LOL  I've got a buddy with a Fire Extinguisher shop.. If you find it impossible to find what you need I'll check with him about repair parts or sources the next time I see him.
Reply:If I could offer a suggestion, while you're looking for parts you should see if the suppliers can get you a product called Cold Fire.  It lets you use water cans on flammable liquids.  We use Cold Fire on the rescue truck at the race track and it can't be beat....refillable extinguisher that is OK to use on gas/diesel/alcohol/nitromethane fires!mla2ofus the freezing point of water drops under pressure (to an extent) just as the boiling point of water rises.  http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasc.../chem00298.htm  Keep your cans pressurized and the hoses drained after using them and you shouldn't have any problems. (unless you're using them in a blizzard in Alaska and it freezes before it hits the fire in which case the heat may be welcome lol)
Reply:I dunno where i grabbed this thing from, but i throw it in my backpack when i ride my quad. seen too many catch fire, then see them burned up an hour later with the poor owner uncovering it from the sand pile they buried it in.http://www.skygeek.com/rt12hafiex.htmllove this little thing, carry three ABC's in the truck, two in the recovery bag, one under the passenger seat.good luck on parts, i've never needed any so i'm not much help. sorry."...My pappy was a pistol I'm a son of a gun...""...God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy..."
Reply:Local fire equipment won't sell parts. They want a certified tech to inspect, rebuild and hydro these. Heck they're $110.00 new from Grainger.  Man I hate lawyers! I explained they are NOT for emergency use, just for welding, no luck. Still searching for online supplier."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:....also, if you have an example of the part, take it to another fire safety shop, other than the one you when to, and tell them it's for a sculpture. In my experience, people will just shrug and/or get interested in what you're doing and sell/give you the part. Just a thought.200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:I got the impression these were the SS tanks that have an air stem at the neck so the bottle can be pressurized once filled.Like this-- http://www.flickr.com/photos/puddleboy/3695319837/ (notice the air valve at the neck?) It's no good for BC fires, but if you're cutting with a torch and start something on fire (especially outside in grass or leaves) they will spray the area down with H2O( as they were designed to be used). If you have an oil fire started then maybe not so useful. The main advantage is you can re-fill them yourself immediately and be able to control the area without finding a fire extinguisher company... The ones I have are strictly for A type fires... I've got several ABC extinguishers around the shop in different sizes, but this type is strictly for outdoors where it can be used to extinguish type A fires.http://www.safetysupercenter.com/fir...sher-s/128.htm
Reply:Hey, Mudbugone, I use one similar to that with a modified tip to spray fungicide on my 'cot trees. I have dry powder type extinguishers and a few CO2 types too, all around the garage and yard. Got some of them from the "Toxic Waste" warehouse, although I need a new hose for a CO2 one and they wouldn't let me get the part  from another one being scrapped, last time. I figure that, according to Murphy's law, so long as I have three times as many as I could ever use, I'll never have need of any!I used to have one of the old CCL4 type with the precharged chamber and a built in pump; very heavy, solid brass unit---but I can't keep everything so used some of it to make something else; I forget what now. Still have a couple of the old acid-soda types because they are early 'collectible' models; one has purple glass for the acid bottle, which had to sit in the sun next to it (hidden in the brush) for some years to get that dark.

Reply:Oh yeah, I do keep a good ABC one around, but these I can refill myself so I keep the good one for real emergencies."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:I got my water can off ebay for 30 bucks shipped.  Last hydro tested in 05 and has never lost a ounce of pressure.
Reply:I know this is a little different but I though you might like to know.If you welder catches fire and you use a dry chem extinguisher on it.You must pull all the covers and wash it out with lots of water right away.Leave covers off and let it dry for a week. Check the wiring and see if it is crumbling.I have sent many welders to be recycled because a small fire that did little damage was filled with dry chem and left there for me to clean out. The dry chem eats up copper wiring.Of course you can avoid this, by cleaning out your welder a couple of times a year.
Reply:Also a handy tip is add some dishwashing liquid to your water air tanks.   the dishwashing liquid is a surfactant and helps the water act as a poor mans foam and coats whatever your spraying better.   A firefighter told me this and it works well.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
