No Cheeze for the pizza is more like it.. Cheeze grinder top has a crack in it..You should by know the first step by now....Grind it out!..First pass and all the crap rises to the top..So grind it flat after and do it over..Next!!...zap!Last edited by zapster; 03-28-2007 at 04:36 PM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:After grinding off the first pass...The second pass was much better..Now lets see what the inside looks like..Hmmm not too bad..So we grind the burn thru flat..As always..The crap rises inside also..So repeat as needed untill you get the results without the crap..(Needed to do this twice inside)Results...Now a little side note..Sometimes on things like this the cracks are longer than you may see by eye..As you weld and the piece gets hot the cracks you can't see show up..So instead of stopping and grinding just keep going untill you know you came to the end of it..Grind and repeat...The crack here was 1/2" longer on one end..1" longer on the other..(Third pic up ^^^ its plain as day at the right end of the "grind")70 Amps..Gas mix..3/32" red sharp!1/16 5356..Yadda Yadda Yadda... But now we all can have our Pizza..And eat it too.. I get all the fun jobs.. ...zap!Last edited by zapster; 03-28-2007 at 04:29 PM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Zap-- I'm not real familiar with working on "seasoned" aluminum.  Would it be possible to clean that junk out with a couple passes from a MAPP gas torch first to get it to the top for cleaning instead of wasting time, gas, and filler on welding and grinding off??  I'm not knocking you or your techniqe,  just curious??  ThanksPatching farm equipment with 2 old 6 volt batteries, some jumper cables and a box of 6010 left out in the rain last night

Reply:A few years ago my brother knocked the skeg off the outdrive of his big block boat.  Evidently the previous owner had ran it in salt water.  When he took the outdrive to be repaired the shop asked if if he ran it in salt water and he said- no --since HE hadn't.  Well I guess it became quite clear pretty quick when the guy put his TIG to it and all the salt boiled out of the metal.  They were not too happy and I can understand why.  Unbelievably crappy looking weld.  He sold it soon after that for other reasons.Patching farm equipment with 2 old 6 volt batteries, some jumper cables and a box of 6010 left out in the rain last night

Reply:Pre heat with a torch and try to cook some of the impurities out before welding also try to bevel where your weld will be to help penitration and always go 1 inch beyound where the crack starts and stops. On other exotics sometimes it helps to peen in theses areas, it may keep it from cracking more. But not always, good job and keep up the good work. I would have a cold beer with that pizza!!!

Reply:How does one would break a cheese grater like that?[/QUOTE]If you saw the size and HP of the Hobart mixer that the pelican(grater) ataches to you would understand the force involved. I use to work in a kitchen, and man do the machnies take a beating(even more so than in metal fab). A big 60 QT Hobart has at the very least 5 horse going through a set of planatery gears before you even see it.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Zap,  What are you using to grind on the aluminum.  It looks like a bur in some pics but others looks like some kind of wheel??  Is there a special material that doesn't load up??Dennis
Reply:Did one exacly the same, same crack same place, same shape, even the welding looks the same! There's a big friggin lever to jam the cheese in and an idiot at the end of the lever. I get skidoo engine blocks and covers as well and you can only clean so much till its time to weld and get the oil out. Grind and reweld.  You got them over a barrel now, if there's no cheese, there's no pizza.Man invented metal, he can do whatever he wants with it.KMAC

Reply:Zap is a walking welding encyclopedia!Zap -- you have to write a welding manual or do training videos.  All this stuff are the questions that all welders have that no training program really answers.  We got a million guys in the field trying to reinvent the same wheel. Here's the state of the art in weld training videos to date:http://ia300143.us.archive.org/0/ite...ldingO1942.mpg   A real training progam that addresses the real problems and questions welders face all the time, at an affordable price, would be a million seller.
