Reply:What size stock do you want to bend? The bender pictured above only bends 3/16 flat bar and 1/4 in round. Do you just want to build a scroll bender? Though if you need a scroll bender and if you are going to bend stock within the capacity of the scroll bender, then I would buy one.Usually for heavier stock--the material is heated and bent around a fixed pattern. I started this thread last year. It might be helpful, if want to make a pattern. http://www.weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=5190
Reply:I have bent 1/2 " round bar with my HF bender. The HF scroller needs some work on the scroller to ger good scrolls. The end of the inner die has a flat spot. If you build it up with some weld and regrind the proper profile it will make pretty decent scrolls.DennisThermal Arc 185-TSWMillermatic Challenger 172VictorO/AAtlas Craftsman 12 by 24 LatheEsab PCM-875Wholesalem Tool Mill-Drill

Reply:Are you looking for a particular size scroll? What material thickness? I have made homemade scroll jigs that start with a "donor' scroll, I will post some pics within a couple of days.Just my opinion, not from a book, just from the road.Howes Welding Inc.www.howesweldinginc.com
Reply:I have the Shop Outfitters scroller and it is first class, but it takes a toll on the body when making alot of scrolls. So i put a 3/4 hp motor and a 60:1 gearbox on mine. 1,000 scrolls a day are possible and its all sweat free...BobPICS>>> http://new.photos.yahoo.com/aametalm...60762312603743Bob WrightSalem, Ohio Birthplace of the Silver & Deming Drillhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sawking/1999 Miller MM185 w/ Miller 185 Spoolmate spoolgun |
